Overview of 2012 Honda Civic GX By R. Feeman
The alternative-fuel Honda Civic GX, redubbed the Honda Civic Natural Gas for the 2012 model year, comes equipped with a tweaked version of Honda's 1.8-liter engine, so it can run on compressed natural gas rather than regular gasoline, making it the only factory-built car in the country designed to run on that type of fuel. The engine mates to a 5-speed automatic transmission and posts fuel economy numbers of 27/38 mpg. Previously available in only four states (California, Utah, New York and Oklahoma), the Civic Natural Gas (GX) is now sold at select dealers in 35 states. Owners can refuel the vehicle at specially equipped gas stations across the country or by using a home-refueling system. Because it runs on an alternative fuel, the front-wheel-drive Civic Natural Gas qualifies for the use of HOV (carpool) lanes in California and other states.
Standard features for the Civic Natural Gas include air conditioning, Bluetooth, steering-wheel-mounted controls, cruise control, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel and power windows and door locks. In addition, it receives Honda's new intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID), which handles audio, Bluetooth and general vehicle information. The Civic Natural Gas also comes equipped with remote keyless entry and a 4-speaker, 160-watt audio system with an MP3/CD player, an input jack and speed-sensitive sound. Power folding mirrors are among the exterior features. Standard safety equipment includes 6 airbags, as well as vehicle stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist. The front-wheel-drive Honda Civic Natural Gas (GX) rides on 15-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires.
This overview covers the GX trim only.
