New for 2012, the Mustang Boss 302 2-door hardtop coupe rolls onto showroom floors with a number of unique and upgraded features, starting with its powerplant. It receives the same 5.0-liter V8 that powers the Mustang GT trims, with additional performance tweaks to boost horsepower to 444 hp, while torque checks in at 380 lb-ft. The automaker adds a short-throw, close-ratio 6-speed automatic transmission and a race-inspired clutch with upgraded friction materials. Fuel economy numbers check in at 15/26 mpg for the big V8. The Boss also gets a unique suspension, steering, tuning and calibration, as well as 5-way adjustable shocks.
Outside, the Boss 302 displays such unique design features as a modified front fascia with a front air splitter, brake cooling ducts and quad pipes with two rear and two side exits. Other exterior features include foglights, HID headlights, unique hood and decklid stripes, a black rear spoiler and 19-inch black-painted aluminum wheels with Pirelli summer tires. Owners can add a Laguna Seca package that includes a red front grille, red stripes and a pedestal-mount rear spoiler, as well as an upgraded limited-slip rear axle and unique rear springs and sway bar. It also includes a rear seat brace with cover, which replaces the rear seat.
Inside, the Boss 302 comes well-equipped with such features as Charcoal Black front bucket seats with 4-way manual adjustment, an Alcantara suede-wrapped steering wheel, a dark-aluminum instrument panel with a unique gauge cluster, and a black cue-ball-style shift knob. Air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and door locks, a 50/50-split fold-down rear seat, remote keyless entry and a 4-speaker AM/FM audio system are among the other standard features. In addition, Ford includes its MyKey system, which enables owners to set limits for top speed and audio volume when other drivers are behind the wheel. The Laguna Seca package adds Recaro sport seats and a unique instrument gauge package.
