Overview of 2012 Ford Fusion SEL By R. Feeman
The 2012 Ford Fusion SEL adds a number of luxury-oriented standard features not found on the lower-end Fusion trims, including leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a 4-way power adjustable passenger seat, dual-zone automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped shift knob. Ford's SYNC voice-activated connectivity system, which enables the driver to make phone calls through Bluetooth-enabled smart phones, also comes standard, as does the automaker's MyKey system, giving parents the ability to moderate younger drivers' habits by setting limits on speed and audio volume. Keyless entry, ambient lighting, power windows and door locks, steering-wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, and a 6-speaker AM/FM audio system with XM satellite radio and a CD/MP3 player also come standard on the SEL. Exterior features include foglights, dual chrome exhaust tips, automatic headlights and heated power exterior mirrors, while a Reverse Sensing System, power moonroof and 390-watt Sony Premium sound system are among the optional features.
Power for the 5-passenger, front-wheel-drive Fusion SEL comes from a 2.5-liter Duratec 4-cylinder engine, which produces 175 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. It connects to a 6-speed automatic transmission, although Ford also offers an optional 6-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission, which includes a thumb shifter so drivers can change gears manually. In addition, for owners who want more power, Ford offers the SEL with an optional 3.0-liter Duratec V6 engine, which pumps out 240 hp and 223 lb-ft of torque. The 4-cylinder engine posts fuel economy numbers of 23/32 mpg with the regular automatic and 22/30 when equipped with the optional SelectShift transmission. The optional V6, offered only with the 6-speed SelectShift transmission, manages numbers of 20/28. Standard safety equipment includes 6 airbags, as well as Ford's AdvanceTrac traction control system with electronic stability control. Antilock disc brakes also come standard. The Fusion SEL rides on 17-inch, 10-spoke aluminum wheels with all-season tires.
This overview covers the SEL trim only.
