The 2012 Ford Fusion SEL AWD comes equipped with Ford's all-wheel-drive system, which helps improve traction and handling on all types of road surfaces. It automatically sends power to the wheels with the most traction when it detects slippage. In addition, at highway speeds, the AWD system automatically deactivates to conserve fuel. The AWD system channels power from a 3.0-liter Duratec V6 engine, which produces 240 hp and 223 lb-ft of torque. The V6 mates to a 6-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission, which enables drivers to change gears manually using a button on the shifter. Fuel economy numbers for the V6/SelectShift combination check in at 20/28 mpg. Four-wheel antilock brakes and Ford's AdvanceTrac traction control system with electronic stability control come standard on the SEL AWD.
Inside, the Fusion SEL's upscale, spacious, and quiet cabin includes such luxury-oriented features as leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a 4-way power-adjustable passenger seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. Ford's SYNC voice-activated connectivity system, which also comes standard, enables drivers to make phone calls through Bluetooth-enabled smart phones, while the MyKey system gives parents the ability to moderate younger drivers' habits by setting limits on speed and audio volume. Other standard features for the SEL AWD include keyless entry, ambient lighting, power windows and door locks, steering-wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, and a 6-speaker AM/FM audio system with XM satellite radio and a CD/MP3 player. Six airbags are among the standard safety features. Outside, foglights, dual chrome exhaust tips, automatic headlights, and heated power exterior mirrors are among the standard features. Options include a Reverse Sensing System, a power moonroof and a 390-watt Sony Premium sound system. The Fusion SEL AWD rides on 17-inch, 10-spoke aluminum wheels with all-season tires.
