Overview of 2012 Ford Fiesta SE By Eric Tallberg
Ford’s nifty and agile 2012 Fiesta SE adds a few extra amenities to an already impressive 5-passenger subcompact sedan. Power mirrors and 15 inch steel wheels outside complement almost 13 cubic feet of trunk space, as well as such posh cabin accoutrements as a simulated alloy steering wheel, premium cloth upholstery and simulated alloy dash, door and shift knob accents. Then there are standard comfort and convenience features like a trip computer, telescoping tilt-wheel steering, air conditioning, power windows and door locks and front floor mats to ease the journey a bit. Finally, standard entertainment components and telematics include an MP3-capable single-CD player with 4 speakers and phone pre-wiring. Options, meantime, encompass Ford’s interfaced 80-watt audio system with 6 speakers, the Sport Appearance package, featuring 15-inch painted aluminum wheels and rear deck-lid spoiler, and the quirky-yet-appealing Tattoo Graphics package with its customizable exterior graphics presentations. Cruise control, heated front seats, heated outside mirrors and satellite radio are all additionally available for the SE in various packages.
Powering the 2012 Fiesta SE is a variable-valve-timed (VVT) 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder engine (I4) that mates with a standard 5-speed manual transmission for 120 hp and 112 lb-ft of torque and mileage estimated at 29 mpg city/37 highway. An available dual-clutch 6-speed auto-manual transmission, furthermore, boosts the SE’s estimated mileage to an impressive 30/40. The SE is available only with front-wheel drive (FWD).
Safety-wise, the 2012 Fiesta SE boasts seven airbags include front and rear head airbags, front side-mounted airbags and a driver’s knee airbag, earning its 2011 counterpart the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick award. Added to this are standard 4-wheel antilock brakes (ABS), traction and stability control and a post-collision safety system that’s backed up by Ford’s ballyhooed 911 Assist automated emergency alert communications.
This overview covers the SE trim only.
