Overview of 2012 Chevrolet Equinox LTZ By R. Feeman
As the top-of-the-line Equinox available for 2012, the Chevrolet Equinox LTZ comes well-equipped with a number of upscale features, including leather upholstery with perforated leather inserts, memory settings for the 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat and a programmable rear power liftgate. New features for 2012 include a Color Touch Radio with a 7-inch color touchscreen, USB port, CD player, SiriusXM radio and a rear-view camera, as well as an optional MyLink connectivity system, which wirelessly links smartphones into the vehicle's audio system and touchscreen, providing access to apps, music and information. The touchscreen also displays a rear-view camera and provides access to an 8-speaker, 250-watt Pioneer audio system. The front seats are heated, while the second row features the Multi-Flex sliding rear seat, which moves forward and back by as much as 8 inches to maximize passenger or cargo space. An auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a remote vehicle starter also come standard on the LTZ, along with air conditioning, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, OnStar with Bluetooth, power windows and door locks, and 6 airbags.
For power, owners can choose from a 2.4-liter Ecotec 4-cylinder engine, which comes standard, or an optional 3.6-liter V6. The 4-cylinder produces 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque, and posts fuel economy numbers of 22/32 mpg. The V6 delivers 264 hp and 222 lb-ft of torque, and fuel economy numbers of 17/20 mpg. Both powerplants run on both regular gasoline and E85 ethanol fuel, and both connect to a 6-speed automatic transmission. When owners opt for the V6, Chevy adds a lane departure warning system and forward collision alert as options. Safety features include the StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with rollover mitigation, as well as traction control, electronic brakeforce distribution, Hill Start Assist and Electronic Trailer Sway control. Outside, standard features include heated power side mirrors with integrated blind-spot mirrors, halogen projector-style headlights, halogen foglights, daytime running lights, chrome door handles and a roof rack with center rails. The LTZ rides on 17-inch aluminum wheels, while new 18-inch chrome-clad wheels are available as an option.
This overview covers the LTZ trim only.
