Overview of 2012 Chevrolet Equinox LTZ AWD By R. Feeman
The top-of-the-line Chevrolet Equinox LTZ AWD crossover vehicle comes equipped with a wide range of features and options for 2012, including a capable all-wheel-drive system that sends power to the front wheels under normal driving situations but shifts some torque to the rear wheels when it detects slippage. A 2.4-liter Ecotec 4-cylinder engine provides base power for the LTZ AWD. It produces 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque, and posts fuel economy numbers of 20/29 mpg. Owners who seek more power can opt for a 3.6-liter V6, which delivers 264 hp and 222 lb-ft of torque, although mileage numbers drop to 16/18 mpg. Both powerplants link to a 6-speed automatic transmission, and run on both regular gasoline and E85 ethanol fuel. When owners opt for the V6, Chevy adds a lane departure warning system and forward collision alert as optional featurs for the LTZ. GM's StabiliTrak electronic stability control system comes standard, along with rollover mitigation, traction control, Hill Start Assist, Electronic Trailer Sway control and antilock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist.
Inside, the LTZ AWD receives a few new features for 2012, including a Color Touch Radio with a 7-inch color touchscreen, USB port, CD player, SiriusXM radio and a rear-view camera, as well as an optional MyLink connectivity system, which wirelessly links smartphones into the vehicle's audio system, providing access to apps, music and information. The touchscreen also displays a rear-view camera and provides access to an 8-speaker, 250-watt Pioneer audio system. Leather upholstery with perforated leather inserts, heated front seats, a programmable liftgate and an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat with memory settings come standard for 2012. In addition, a Multi-Flex sliding rear seat moves forward and back by as much as 8 inches, enabling owners to maximize passenger or cargo space. An auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a remote vehicle starter also come standard on the LTZ, along with air conditioning, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, OnStar with Bluetooth, power windows and door locks, and 6 airbags. Outside, the LTZ AWD displays such standard features as heated power side mirrors with integrated blind-spot mirrors, halogen projector-style headlights, halogen foglights, daytime running lights, chrome door handles and a roof rack, as well as 17-inch aluminum wheels, which come standard. Chevy also offers 18-inch chrome-clad wheels as a new option for 2012.
This overview covers the LTZ AWD trim only.
