Whereas the 2011 MAZDA3 i SV retains a 2.0-liter engine and five-speed manual transmission setup, traction control and antiskid are newly standard in 2011. The cloth-covered interior sports front bucket seats and a split-folding rear, with a center console between the buckets. The tilt and telescoping steering wheel provides additional adjustment as well as controls for the MP3-compatible CD player with digital-media player connection. There are power windows and mirrors, a tachometer, variable-intermittent front wipers, and a rear defogger. Six standard airbags are standard for all trims, along with four-wheel antilock disc brakes, brake assist, a theft-deterrent system, and a tire-pressure monitor.

Traction control and an antiskid system finally inject a bit of sport into the 2011 MAZDA3 i Sport, since the added air conditioning and interior air filter do just about as much to sport it up as the optional five-speed shiftable automatic. You’ll still get the 2.0-liter engine, along with the standard five-speed manual, but in other aspects, the i Sport is identical to the i SV, with cloth upholstery, 16-inch wheels, front bucket seats, and a split-folding rear. The tilt and telescoping steering wheel holds controls for the MP3/CD player with digital-media player connection, and power windows and mirrors are standard, along with intermittent front wipers and a rear defogger. Six standard airbags, a theft-deterrent system, tire-pressure monitor, and four-wheel antilock disc brakes with brake assist round out the safety features here.

With luxury not seen in the i SV and i Sport trims, the i Touring is the highest-level 2.0-liter 2011 MAZDA3 you can get. A five-speed manual and five-speed shiftable automatic are both available, but with the inclusion of traction control and an antiskid system for all trims this year, the actual value of the i Touring drops a bit in 2011. This would be the place to include leather, but sadly cloth upholstery is still standard for the front bucket and split-folding rear seats. The i Touring gets a full power package with doors, windows, mirrors, and remote-keyless entry, and Bluetooth and cruise control join the party here as well. Alloy wheels are 16 inches and grind to a halt via four-wheel antilock disc brakes with brake assist. The tilt and telescoping steering wheel holds controls for the MP3-compatible stereo, which also comes with a digital-media connection. Dual front, front-side, and curtain-side airbags, a theft-deterrent system, and a tire pressure monitor provide additional safety.

Given the complaints the 2.0-liter engine has received, the s Sport trim is the first you should be looking at, with its 2.5-liter engine and upgraded transmission options of a six-speed manual or five-speed shiftable automatic. Traction control and antiskid keep things civil, and the tachometer is joined here by a trip computer. The power mirrors have been upgraded here as well with integrated turn signals, and power windows, door locks, and remote keyless entry complete the power package. Illuminated visor mirrors, outside-temperature indicator, Bluetooth, and cruise control are all included. The interior still gets a cloth treatment for the front bucket and split-folding rear seats, but the tilt and telescoping steering wheel is leather-wrapped and has controls for the MP3-compatible stereo. Foglights and a rear spoiler provide a visual cue to the trim level, as well as 17-inch alloys wheels. Safety is handled by four-wheel antilock disc brakes with brake assist, six airbags, a theft-deterrent system, and a tire pressure monitor.

The 2011 MAZDA3 s Sport trim gets the hatchback treatment here and is powered by the 2.5-liter engine. Buyers can choose either a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed shiftable automatic. Power features span door locks, remote-keyless entry, power windows, and mirrors with integrated turn signals. Cloth upholstery for the front bucket and split-folding rear seats is still standard, and a tachometer, trip computer, and a tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls are included for driver convenience. Most apparent from the outside are the foglights and a rear spoiler, but drivers will also enjoy the illuminated visor mirrors, outside-temperature indicator, Bluetooth, and cruise control. Wiper duty is handled by intermittent fronts and a rear, while a cargo cover is included for privacy. Mazda has made an effort to address the “touring” part of the name of its s Grand Touring version of the 2011 MAZDA3. You’ll also get the beefier 2.5-liter engine along with your choice of a five-speed manumatic or a six-speed manual transmission. To make your touring experience more enjoyable, they’ve included a tachometer and trip computer, cruise control, and Bluetooth. The leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel holds controls for the CD/MP3 player. There are illuminated visor mirrors and power everything, including mirrors with integrated turn signals and remote-keyless entry. For the outside, they’ve added 17-inch alloys, foglights, and a rear spoiler, while safety features include traction control and antiskid, six airbags, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, and a tire pressure monitor.

For the long haul, Mazda offers the 2011 MAZDA3 s Grand Touring Hatchback trim, with its 2.5-liter engine and choice of five-speed manumatic or six-speed manual transmission. For the touring aspect, they’ve included heated leather front bucket seats with 8-way power for the driver, as well as amenities like dual-zone automatic climate controls, cruise control, a trip computer, and even steering-linked automatic adaptive bi-xenon headlights.
