The 2011 Infinti G37 Journey provides a credible, sporty alternative to German luxury sedans. With its combination of aggressive styling and a powerful drivetrain, the 2011 G37 Journey offers plenty of verve at a (relatively) affordable base price.

A powerful engine and a proper rear-wheel-drive chassis help make the 2011 G37 Journey a very good drivers car. 328 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque are on tap from its all-aluminum, 3.7-liter V6 motor. While the G37's throttle response is excellent and the seven-speed automatic transmission serves up timely shifts, the drivetrain package ultimately lacks the silky refinement of its German competition.

Space for five is provided in the G37 Journey's well-appointed interior. Standard leather seats are heated up front and feature power lumbar adjustment, while a dual-zone automatic climate control system helps keep the cabin comfortable. Also included are a push-button start system and six-speaker stereo with iPod interface and satellite radio.

Sport and luxury coexist nicely in the 2011 Infiniti G37 Base Coupe. Although not quite as refined as the BMW 3 Series it competes with, the 2011 G37 Base Coupe offers a host of standard features, startlingly brisk performance and balanced rear-wheel-drive handling.

Like all G37s, the 2011 Base Coupe features Infiniti's 3.7-liter V6 engine. With all-aluminum construction and four valves per cylinder, the potent V6 makes 330 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration is immediate, though the G37's engine doesn't spin as smoothly as the benchmark Bimmer straight-six. Shifting duties are handled by a high-tech seven-speed automatic gearbox that offers manual control via a leather-wrapped shift lever.

Although luxurious, the 2011 G37 Base Coupe's interior is also a bit cramped. Rear seat headroom is at a premium and legroom is compromised by the driveshaft tunnel. The seats themselves are excellent, firmly bolstered and covered in soft leather. The standard six-speaker CD stereo includes satellite radio and iPod integration, plus remote controls on the steering wheel.

Under the 2011 G37 xAWD's hood resides Infiniti's excellent "VQ" 3.7-liter V6 engine. With 328 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque on tap, the all-aluminum motor revs willingly and enables the G37 xAWD to accelerate with enthusiasm. A seven-speed automatic transmission is the only gearbox offered.

The 2011 G37 xAWD's interior specification mirrors that of the RWD Journey trim. Seating for five is provided, though the transmission tunnel crimps rear legroom a bit. Standard features include heated leather seats, a back-up camera system, Bluetooth phone connectivity and a six-speaker CD stereo. GPS navigation, a Bose stereo and a power moonroof are offered as options.

The 2011 Infiniti G37 Journey Coupe offers sterling performance and a healthy dose of luxury. As a step up relative to the Base G37 Coupe trim, the Journey includes such features as dual-zone electronic climate control, heated seats and Bluetooth phone integration.

Though not as silky smooth as the BMW 3 Series motor it benchmarks, the 2011 G37 Journey Coupe's 3.7-liter V6 develops a robust 330 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. The rear-wheel-drive coupe's acceleration is brisk, and the standard seven-speed automatic gearbox shifts crisply. Handling limits are high, and the G37 Journey Coupe doesn't display any bad habits.

Like most coupes, the 2011 G37 Journey doesn't offer an abundance of cabin space. The firm, leather-upholstered seats are comfortable, but don't accommodate larger passengers with much grace. Interior style and detailing is tasteful and well-executed, though it looks plain compared to the decadently over-the-top Infiniti cabins of late.

The 2011 G37 Sport Appearance Edition offers a bevy of creature comforts within its stylish interior. Like other G37s, the 2011 Sport trim is powered by an all-aluminum, 3.7-liter V6 engine. Making 328 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, the V6 revs willingly and enables the G37 Sport to accelerate very quickly. The six-speed manual gearbox isn't as smooth as the units from BMW and Audi, yet the ratios are evenly spaced, and the shift action is direct and positive. Larger brakes and stiffer shocks help the rear-wheel-drive G37 Sport handle corners with gusto.

Inside the 2011 G37 Sport buyers are treated to firmly bolstered leather seats and racy aluminum trim. Standard GPS navigation integrates seamlessly with a 10-speaker Bose CD stereo. Other standard features include a back-up camera, Bluetooth phone integration, keyless push-button start and satellite radio.

While rear-wheel-drive G37 Coupe buyers have the option of shifting their own gears, the xAWD trim is offered only with a smooth seven-speed automatic transmission.

Adding some luster to an established platform, the 2011 Infiniti G37 Limited sedan offers buyers unique color and trim options plus a lengthy standard equipment list. The low-production G37 Limited trim features special Graphite Shadow exterior paint and a new front bumper that apes the look of Infiniti's redesigned M sedan.

Under the hood, the G37 Limited features the same 3.7-liter V6 other G37 trims receive. Producing 328 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, the all-aluminum V6 revs willingly and emits a muted snarl. Though drivetrain refinement isn't quite on the competition's level, the G37 Limited's seven-speed automatic transmission swaps gears with telepathic quickness. The rear-wheel-drive chassis attacks corners with aplomb, especially since the G37 Limited wears fat 18-inch tires.

Only one interior color, Monaco Red, is offered in the 2011 G37 Limited. The combination of matte gray paint and red leather is sensational, and the Limited's cabin looks as if it belongs in a much pricier car. Standard equipment mirrors that of the G37 Journey trim, with power heated seats, keyless push-button start and Bluetooth connectivity all included.

Power flows to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission that handles shifting duties with poise and offers paddle shifters for manual control.

Though space inside is at a premium, the cabin of the 2011 G37 Base Convertible is posh and well isolated from wind buffeting. Like most of the high-end drop tops these days, the 2011 G37 Sport Convertible employs a power-folding metal roof that can be operated from the driver's seat. The G37's stylish interior seats four and offers such niceties as power leather seats, Bluetooth phone connectivity and GPS navigation with real-time traffic.

Like all G37s, the 2011 Sport Convertible offers an all-aluminum 3.7-liter V6 engine. With 325 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque on tap, the G37 Sport Convertible accelerates swiftly and smoothly. The six-speed manual transmission ups the driver involvement factor and delivers power to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. The 2011 G37 Limited Edition Convertible retains the 3.7-liter V6 engine of the more commonplace trims, now making 325 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. Though not as smooth as its European competition, the all-aluminum six moves the G37 Limited Edition Convertible along smartly. A seven-speed automatic transmission serves up timely, crisp shifts, while the effective traction and stability control systems help keep the rear-drive G37 on an even keel.

Unique interior styling is a hallmark of the 2011 G37 Limited Edition Convertible. The dark beltline of the cabin contrasts perfectly with the Mocha leather seats. The G37's folding metal hardtop can be lowered at the push of a button, though it restricts rearward visibility when raised.
