Honda has added a crossover/hatchback to its popular Accord lineup, resulting in the 4-door, 5-passenger 2011 Accord Crosstour. The EX is the base trim of the Crosstour line but still boasts 51.3 cubic feet of cargo space (with the rear seats folded), beating its cargo-challenged sedan and coupe siblings by a country mile. Then there are the 17-inch alloy wheels and a chrome grille as standard appearance features, with cloth upholstery, power-adjustable front seats and a storage-capable rear-seat armrest also thrown in for good measure. The Crosstour EX also includes remote power door locks, cruise control, telescoping tilt-wheel steering, power windows and heated power outside mirrors on the list of standard goodies, as well as dual-zone climate control and front and rear floor mats. Entertainment is provided by a standard 360-watt audio system with a 6-CD changer and seven speakers, including a subwoofer. Options, meantime, are all dealer-installed and include underbody spoilers, 18-inch alloy wheels, a roof rack, backup sensors and remote engine start.
A 271-hp, variable-valve-timed (VVT) 3.5-liter V6 engine and 5-speed automatic transmission power the 2011 Crosstour EX, with torque in the range of 254 lb-ft. Expect some 1,500 pounds of towing capacity out of the six-banger with the available towing package installed, and mileage is touted to be 18 mpg city/27 highway, a 1-mpg improvement over last year’s trims. The EX trim is available in front-wheel drive (FWD) only.
Standard safety features in the 2011 Accord Crosstour EX include 4-wheel antilock brakes (ABS), as well as traction and stability control. This base trim additionally sports front side-mounted airbags, as well as front and rear head airbags and front head-restraint whiplash protection. Daytime running lights, front fog/driving lights and a remote antitheft alarm are also delivered in this hefty hatchback.
