Overview of 2011 Honda Accord Crosstour EX-L 4WD By Eric Tallberg
Honda’s odd-looking 2011 Accord Crosstour stashes an “as-needed” 4-wheel-drive (4WD) system aboard its EX-L trim, thus begetting the EX-L 4WD. Known as much for its controversial appearance as for its very un-sedan-like 51.3 cubic feet of cargo space, this 4-door, 5-passenger midsize hatchback-cum-crossover handles almost like the Accord sedan, scoots nearly as quickly as the coupe and sports all kinds of standard semi-luxury goodies. Beginning with 18-inch alloy wheels, a power sunroof and chrome grille, the EX-L 4WD also boasts leather upholstery, heated, power-adjustable front seats and driver memory systems, as well as leather and simulated chrome cabin accents and trim. Telescoping tilt-wheel steering, power windows and heated mirrors, remote power door locks, cruise control, a universal remote garage door opener and dual-zone climate control also make the standard equipment list. Finally, a standard 360-watt audio system with 6-CD changer, seven speakers, satellite radio, a USB connection and Bluetooth technology provide occupants with enough entertainment and communications gizmos to take the edge off traveling. Options, all dealer-installed, include upgraded 18-inch wheels, underbody spoilers, a roof rack, remote engine start and backup sensors.
Standard power for the 2011 Accord Crosstour EX-L 4WD comes in the form of a variable-valve-timed (VVT) 271-hp, 3.5-liter V6 engine. A 5-speed automatic transmission helps the six-banger put out 254 lb-ft of torque, good enough to tow 1,500 pounds of trailer with the available towing package installed. Mileage, meantime, is estimated at 18 mpg city/26 highway. A center limited-slip mechanical differential is at the heart of the 4WD system and allows Honda’s Real Time 4WD to automatically and instantaneously switch the EX-L 4WD from its usual front-wheel drive (FWD) configuration to front and/or rear-wheel drive (RWD) when traction demands call for power to the wheels that grip.
Standard safety features aboard the 2011 Accord Crosstour EX-L 4WD reflect the rest of the lineup. Four-wheel antilock brakes (ABS) complement traction and stability control, while inside, front side-mounted airbags, front and rear head airbags and front head-restraint whiplash protection help keep occupants safe. Additional safety features include daytime running lights, front fog/driving lights and a remote antitheft alarm.
This overview covers the EX-L 4WD trim only.
