Overview of 2011 Buick Lucerne Super By Eric Tallberg
With its V8 engine and driver-adaptable active suspension, the 2011 Buick Lucerne Super sits atop this entry-level luxury lineup. The Magnetic Ride Control system is touted to provide a more engaging, if not quite as plush driving experience with this front-wheel-drive (FWD) full-size sedan. Though not available with six-passenger seating, the Lucerne Super adds 18-inch chrome-plated aluminum wheels, a power sunroof, remote engine start, and touch screen DVD navigation to the list of standard amenities. Options, meanwhile, are limited to such dealer-installed items as a cargo tray and flush rear spoiler, each available across the lineup. Added standard safety features with the top-shelf Super trim are the standard blind-spot and lane-departure warning systems.
In a radical break from its V6-equipped brethren, the 2011 Lucerne Super boasts a 292-hp V8 engine that combines with the traditional four-speed automatic transmission to produce 288 lb-ft of torque. With no variable valve timing and the reliable but less economical four-speed automatic, the Super’s V8 is estimated at a somewhat paltry 15/23 mpg.
This overview covers the Super trim only.
