Overview of 2011 BMW 5 Series 528i By Michael Perkins

The mid-level muscle from BMW starts with the 2011 5 Series 528i's familiar 3.0-liter inline six, here coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift. It comes standard with a limited-slip differential and traction control, although the ride from the 17-inch wheels continues to receive criticism due to the run-flat tires that have split BMW fans. Otherwise, there’s very little to argue about. Everyone likes dual-zone automatic climate controls and a hi-def CD and MP3 player with digital-media connection. Vinyl is a weak spot for the interior, but at least the power tilt and telescoping steering wheel is wrapped in real leather. The front buckets get 10-way power and lumbar adjustment, and the driver gets a memory system that saves settings for the seat, steering wheel, and heated power mirrors. The passenger mirror even gets tilt-down back-up aid as well. There are power windows and doors, along with a power sunroof and remote keyless entry. Bluetooth is a standard feature here, as well as rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, and foglights. And of course all the safety features are in attendance, with six airbags, brake assist for the four-wheel antilocks, an antiskid system, and front-seat active head restraints.

This overview covers the 528i trim only.
