2010 Volvo V70 Review
ProsLooks, ride & handling, performance, economy ConsNothing in particular for my car, however, I would like to see a more up-to-date satnav system from Volvo

My 2010 Volvo V70 2.0d Summum — Performance: It's surprisingly quick for "just" being a 2.0 diesel! This variant is delivered with a tight 6-speed manual transmission only, which suits the engine very well. 136 hp/320 Nm torque. In my opinion, this is one of the best premium cars in its price range (note: Norwegian price level). Acceleration from stillstand is absolutely acceptable, and it's particular strong at in-speed accelerations. Brakes are very good. The car's handling is also at a high level, even with those relatively massive 245/40-18" wheels. Build quality: the car is extremely delicate, and both perceived and actual quality is impressive, and WAY better than its predecessor. No squeaks or rattles, and noise level is also a huge improvement over the old V70 model. Appearance: I just love the looks of this car. It's very elegant both inside and outside - and in my eyes far more beautiful than its competitors. (Of course I'm being subjective now...). I chose a classic setup for my car, "Summum" trim level with Seashell metallic exterior colour and softbeige leather interior with contrasting Dark Fineline panels. In addition, I retrofitted original Jaguar chrome side mirror covers. For a sporty "summer look", I chose the five-spoke 18-inch "Odysseus" alloys on its summer tires, while seven-spoke 17-inch "Pontos" alloys makes it stand out during the winter. Cost of Ownership: Norwegians are used to rather steep car prices, based on rediculous tax levels. My car's list price is approx. NOK 520,000.- with its setup. This is equivalent to approx. $ 89,500.-/€ 63,500.- with current exchange rates. When compared to its nearest rivals (BMW 520 D, Audi A6 2.0 TDI etc.), the V70 is very attractively priced, though. Both standard list price as well as the cost of optional extras is very competitive. The car's fuel consumption is rather good, with average at approx. 0.52 litres per kilometer (5.43 miles/UK gallon). Maintenance costs are average. CO2-emission is 157 g/km. Fun Factor: all-in-all, I really love my car, and have no trouble recommending it to others. It's fun to drive, gorgeous to look at and very pleasant to own. If you demand a more sporty ride, be sure to check out the R-Design before looking at its pricier German rivals. Primary Use: Family transportation |
