Overview of 2010 Toyota Prius Five By R. Feeman
The top-of-the-line Toyota Prius V comes with a wide range of standard features for 2010. In addition to its redesigned exterior and new platform, the Prius V receives new LED headlights with auto-leveling, auto-off, and headlight washers. Integrated foglights also come standard outside. Inside, such features as leather upholstery, heated front seats, power lumbar support for the driver's seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel give the cabin an upscale feel. The automatic climate control system includes a Plasmacluster ionizer, which removes contaminants from the air. Bluetooth, cruise control, a Smart Key remote keyless entry system, and power windows and door locks also come standard. For entertainment, the Prius V includes an eight-speaker JBL AM/FM audio system with a 6-CD changer and an MP3 input jack. A new feature for 2010, called the Touch Tracer Display, helps drivers keep their focus on the road ahead by projecting virtual images of two steering-wheel-mounted touch control pads onto the dashboard's instrument panel. Drivers can use the control buttons to manage the audio, climate control, and other systems, and view duplicate images displayed in front of them without having to look down at the steering wheel.
An updated Hybrid Energy Drive powers the Prius V for 2010. The hybrid drive features a new beltless 1.8-liter four-cylinder gas engine, which combines with two electric motors to produce 134 hp. The hybrid drive links to an ECVT, or electronic continuously variable transmission, which shifts smoothly and seamlessly. Fuel economy numbers check in at a very respectable 51/48 mpg. Toyota equips the Prius V with the Star Safety System, which includes enhanced vehicle stability control, traction control, and antilock brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution. In addition, the Prius V comes with hill start assist, which aids drivers when starting from a full stop on a hill. Safety options available on the Prius V trim include a Pre-Collision system, which adjusts the brakes and front seatbelts in the event of an imminent accident, and a Lane Keep Assist system, which helps keep the car in the center of the lane. Also available are Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, which maintains a set distance behind the vehicle in front, and a next-generation Intelligent Parking Assist, which helps drivers guide the car into parking spaces. The Prius V rides on 17-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels, which provide good road grip and stability.
This overview covers the Five trim only.
