Catering to buyers who demand the added security of all-wheel drive (AWD), the Nissan Rogue S AWD mixes style with go (mostly) anywhere capability. The heart of the S AWD is its so-called intuitive all-wheel-drive system, which uses input from various sensors to determine the optimal distribution of power. The system is completely automatic and pairs with standard traction and stability control to provide secure handling in all conditions.
The intuitive AWD mates to the standard Rogue powertrain: a 2.5-liter, 170-hp four cylinder backed up by a high-tech CVT automatic transmission. Standard chassis features include independent suspension and antilock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist. The AWD hardware adds about 150 pounds to the weight of the Rogue, and fuel mileage drops by 1 mpg in both city and highway driving to 21/26 mpg.
Standard features include power windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise control, and air conditioning. A single-CD player features an auxiliary jack for MP3 players and four speakers. The seats are upholstered in cloth and come with four-way driver’s seat adjustment and 60/40-split-folding capability in back. The sole option is the 360-view package, which upgrades the look with 16-inch alloy wheels and also adds a rear-view camera, auto-dimming mirror, and chrome grille.

To start the SL includes 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels with all-season tires and body-color power mirrors. In addition to the usual power features, the SL also gets a six-way adjustable driver’s seat, fold-down passenger front seat (for those trips to the lumber yard), and a polished stainless steel exhaust tip. Utility is enhanced with silver-accented roof rails and an interior lighting accent package.
SL trims (like all Rogues) are powered by a 2.5-liter inline four with dual overhead cams and variable valve timing. This powerplant produces 170-hp and 175 lb-ft of torque and is well matched to a continuously variable automatic transmission driving the front wheels. Safety-conscious buyers will be impressed with the dual front and side-curtain airbags, antilock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, and standard traction/stability control.
Option packages abound on the SL and offer buyers several luxurious choices. On FWD models the premium package includes intelligent keyless start, an eight-speaker Bose audio system with 6-CD changer, Bluetooth hands-free phone kit, and a rear cargo cover and organizer. Style is one of the Rogue’s best attributes, but for buyers who want to make an even more personal statement, Nissan offers the Krom package. The Krom shares all of its mechanical features with its S and SL siblings, but is dressed to the nines with tasteful design touches. A new front grille with integrated foglights presents a smooth, sporty look. The wheels are 17-inch alloys with a special brilliant finish, unique to the Krom and very stylish. Rounding out the look is a color-keyed rear spoiler and sport-tuned exhaust that exits through the center of the revised rear bumper.
The Krom package is devoted to appearance, leaving the standard Rogue mechanical bits untouched. The 170-hp 2.5-liter is peppy, but lacks the amped-up acceleration conveyed by all the sporty Krom bits. The handling is tuned enough to the sporty side to satisfy enthusiastic drivers.
The Krom upgrade is offered only on the S trim level. Standard features from the S (power windows and locks, cruise, air conditioning) are augmented in the Krom with body-color power mirrors and privacy rear glass. The only option for the Krom is front and rear floor mats.

Outside a special front fascia, consisting of unique upper and lower grilles with integrated foglights, distinguishes the S Krom AWD trim. A body-color rear spoiler and so-called "brilliant-finish" 17-inch alloy wheels complete the look.
Inside the standard suite of Rogue features is augmented by steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. Privacy rear glass contributes to an integrated look, while six standard airbags should provide comfort to safety-conscious families.
