Jeep Patriot - Excellent Budget Vehicle — Excellent vehicle. Power is limited by it's 4 Cylinders but otherwise a great vehicle. On my version the suspension is too low for offroading but the next model up is trail rated and has a higher suspension. All in All an excellent car.

Pros

If you want SUV looks and ride without needing heavy towing or off-road capability, this is a good car.

Cons

Build quality is still lacking, I would look to newer versions.

This Is A Good Little Crossover. — The Jeep Patriot combines small car dimensions and fuel thriftiness with an SUV stance. Mine has the 2.4L GEMA engine and CVT. The CVT is better than the first gen units, but still has issues. Step on the gas and you'll remember you are driving a 4 cylinder. Otherwise the engine is fairly quiet. Ride is good, but handling is "twitchy" when quick inputs are made. Build quality is good, the interior is FAR better than the first versions of the Patriot, but the doors are tinny sounding when closed. The Patriot FWD returns about 24 mpg all around, 29 on the highway. It had to have the tranny replaced due to a leak, under warranty. The autostick makes this a fun vehicle to drive.

Pros

Good mileage, nice ammount of room, plus a variable transmission helps this car along with what its got.

Cons

Large hills can be a problem with this car if you don't have momentim at the bottom. another problem is you have very little towing capibility.

If You Need An Suv And Need Afordable Room And Fuel Economy, This Is A Car For You. — Preformance is not a good topic. Acceleration is low, but its an inline four, so what can you expect? braking is good on road and dirt in dry conditions. brakes alright in the snow and once the brakes get dry, rain isn't a problem. it handles better than the other SUVs that i've driven, but that doesn't say much. Build quality is good, no squeaks or rust, the only noise i'd like to get rid of is the wet brake squeak, but you have it with any car. Appearance is above normal, interior is great, as well as outside body. the only thing i could ask for is, maybe a sun/moon roof. Gas mileage, being an inline four, is good for a SUV. Low maintenance. Fun Factor gets a 4/10 because its a heavy car with a four cylinder. you don't get that "hold you to your seat" feel with this car, even though i can with a 10 year old ford focus with significantly less horsepower. it handles good for an SUV, no top-heavy feeling around the turns.

It's not a car, it's a JEEP. Pure driving experience

Cons

relatively low clearance, didn't get trail rated version, can be a little inconvenient not having cruise control

General Lee Jr — Build Quality: works great! two years, 21000 miles! Car Comparisons: wanted a 2000 Monte Carlo(still do), but i needed something for the eight hour drive to college, and a four wheel drive is a good idea for winter in the north
