Overview of 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT 4WD By R. Feeman
The Control Trac four-wheel-drive system, which comes standard on Ford's 2010 Explorer Sport Trac XLT 4WD, sends power to the vehicle's rear wheels during normal driving conditions and to all four wheels when required to ensure optimal traction and stability. In addition, the 4WD system offers three modes of operation for all types of road conditions. Drivers can select the Auto mode for daily driving, the High mode for driving on icy roads or in inclement conditions, or the Low mode for serious off-road four-wheeling. Other performance- and safety-related features for the 2010 Explorer Sport Trac XLT 4WD include antilock brakes and the AdvanceTrac traction control system with Roll Stability Control. A 4.0-liter V6 engine, which generates 210 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque, provides power for the Sport Trac XLT 4WD. The V6 connects to a five-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The EPA estimates fuel economy numbers for the Sport Trac XLT 4WD at 13/19 mpg. Equipped with a Class II trailer tow hitch, which comes standard, the Sport Trac XLT can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
Inside, the Sport Trac XLT 4WD offers such standard features as air conditioning, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, power windows and door locks, and a power sliding rear window. Passengers will find cloth upholstery throughout, as well as front bucket seats and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. Ford positions a two-line message center with an outside temperature display on the dashboard, and equips the Sport Trac XLT 4WD with an AM/FM audio system, which includes a CD player, Sirius satellite radio, and an MP3 input jack. Owners can add such options as a power moonroof, power-adjustable pedals, and a Reverse Sensing System, which alerts drivers if it detects objects in the vehicle's path when backing up. Exterior features include a three-bar chrome grille, foglights, and power sideview mirrors, as well as a 4-foot-long cargo bed with an underfloor storage bin. The 2010 Sport Trac XLT rides on 16-inch painted aluminum wheels with all-season tires.
