Overview of 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Limited AWD By R. Feeman
The 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Limited AWD comes equipped with a full-time, single-speed all-wheel-drive system, which sends an equal amount of power to all four wheels, ensuring optimal traction and stability on slippery road surfaces. A 4.0-liter V6 engine powers the Sport Trac Limited AWD. The V6 generates 210 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque, and links to a five-speed automatic transmission. Owners who require more power can opt for a 4.6-liter V8 engine, which produces 292 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque and links to a six-speed automatic. The EPA estimates fuel economy numbers for the V6 at 13/19 mpg, while fuel economy for the V8 improves slightly to 14/19, due to its more efficient transmission. Standard performance- and safety-related features include antilock brakes and an AdvanceTrac traction control system with Roll Stability Control. The Sport Track Limited AWD can tow up to 3,500 pounds, thanks to its Class II trailer hitch, which comes standard. Towing capacity increases to 6,000 pounds when equipped with the V8 engine and an optional Class III/IV trailer hitch. A Trailer Sway Control system, which also comes standard, applies brakes or adjusts engine torque as required to help the driver maintain control of the vehicle when towing a trailer. The Sport Trac Limited AWD rides on 18-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels with all-season tires.
Inside, the Sport Trac Limited AWD keeps passengers comfortable with a wide range of upscale features, including leather-trimmed upholstery, heated front bucket seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a six-way power-adjustable passenger seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Ford's SYNC entertainment and communications system, which comes standard on the Limited AWD, features GPS functionality for 2010, so drivers can access traffic updates, turn-by-turn directions, sports scores, and other information through Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones. A 190-watt premium AM/FM sound system with a 6-CD changer, an MP3 input jack, Sirius satellite radio, and a subwoofer keeps passengers entertained. Optional upgrades for the Sport Trac Limited AWD include a power moonroof and a voice-activated navigation system. Dressing up the exterior are such features as a four-bar chrome grille, chrome roof rails, and step bars with chrome accents, while the 4-foot-long rear bed offers 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space, as well as tie-downs and an underfloor storage space.
This overview covers the Limited AWD trim only.
