Overview of 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Limited 4WD By R. Feeman
Equipped with Ford's three-mode Control Trac four-wheel-drive system, the 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Limited 4WD delivers optimal traction and stability on all types of road surfaces. The Control Trac system automatically sends power to the rear wheels during normal driving conditions and to all four wheels when required. In addition, drivers can select the Auto mode for everyday driving, the High mode when traveling on icy roads or in inclement conditions, or the Low mode for off-road four-wheeling. The Control Trac system works in conjunction with such performance- and safety-oriented features as four-wheel antilock brakes and Ford's AdvanceTrac traction control system with Roll Stability Control, which come standard. Power for the 2010 Explorer Sport Track Limited 4WD originates with a 4.0-liter V6 engine, which produces 210 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque. The V6 mates to a five-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Owners also can opt for a 4.6-liter V8 engine, which generates 292 hp and 315 lb-ft of torque. It links to a six-speed automatic. Fuel economy numbers check in at 13/19 mpg for the V6 and improve slightly to 14/19 for the V8, thanks to its more efficient transmission.
Equipped with a Class II trailer hitch, which comes as standard equipment, the Sport Trac Limited 4WD can tow up to 3,500 pounds with the V6 engine. Towing capacity increases to 6,990 pounds with the V8 engine and optional Class III/IV trailer hitch. Another standard feature, Trailer Sway Control, applies the brakes and adjusts torque as necessary to help the driver keep the vehicle under control when towing a trailer. Exterior features for the Sport Trac Limited 4WD include a three-bar chrome grille, foglights, chrome step bars, chrome roof rails, and power sideview mirrors. The 4-foot-long cargo bed comes equipped with tie-downs and an underfloor storage bin. Inside, the Sport Trac Limited 4WD keeps passengers comfortable with such features as leather-trimmed seats, heated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. Ford's SYNC in-cabin communications and entertainment system and a 190-watt premium AM/FM sound system with a 6-CD changer, MP3 input jack, Sirius satellite radio, and a subwoofer also comes standard. Options include a power moonroof and a voice-activated navigation system. The Sport Trac Limited 4WD rides on 18-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels.
