Overview of 2010 Ford Escape XLS 4WD By Eric Tallberg
Equipped identically to its front-wheel-drive sibling as far as standard and optional appearance, comfort, and convenience features are concerned, the 2010 Ford Escape XLS 4WD additionally features Ford's Intelligent four-wheel-drive (4WD) system, which monitors traction and torque some 200 times per second. A mechanical center-mounted limited-slip differential distributes full-time power to all four of the Escape XLS 4WD's wheels.
For 2010, the Escape XLS 4WD is powered by the same 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder (I4) engine that drives its front-wheel-drive kin. The XLS 4WD, however, is managed by a standard six-speed automatic to put out 171 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque at 20/26 mpg.
This overview covers the XLS 4WD trim only.
