Overview of 2009 Volkswagen Beetle S PZEV By R. Feeman
Designed for sale in states like California with green emissions standards, the 2009 Volkswagen Beetle S PZEV runs on a low-emissions 2.5-liter, five-cylinder PZEV (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle) powerplant, which produces 150 hp and 170 lb-ft torque. The engine links to either a five-speed manual transmission, which comes standard, or an optional six-speed automatic transmission with the Tiptronic manual shift feature and a Sport mode. Fuel economy numbers for the five-cylinder engine check in at 20/28 mpg with the manual transmission and 20/29 with the automatic. The VW Beetle S PZEV handles well, thanks to its power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, and exhibits minimal body roll in tight corners, due to its suspension, which features McPherson struts in the front and a torsion-beam rear axle with an integrated stabilizer bar. An anti-slip regulation system, an electronic stabilization program, and antilock brakes with brake assist are among the Beetle's many safety and performance features.
Inside, the '09 Beetle S PZEV comes well-equipped with such standard features as five-level heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, cruise control, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry with a folding key fob. V-Tex leatherette upholstery comes standard throughout the cabin. The front seats adjust manually, while the steering wheel tilts and telescopes for driver convenience. The doors lock automatically at 8 mph to ensure passenger safety, although the doors unlock automatically if the airbags deploy. Storage spaces include an adjustable/fold front center armrest, a front seatback pocket, and front and rear cupholders. The Beetle's six-speaker AM/FM audio system includes a CD player, Sirius satellite radio, and an MP3 input jack. Outside, features include heated power exterior mirrors and heated windshield wiper nozzles. The '09 VW Beetle S PZEV rides on 16-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires.
This overview covers the S PZEV trim only.
