Besides tweaks to its front and rear fascias, the 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT convertible gets a larger rear spoiler and dual exhaust pipes. The more powerful of the two Spyder trims, the front-wheel drive GT features a 24-valve, 3.8-liter V6 with choice of 6-speed manual or 5-speed shiftable automatic. This powertrain delivers 265 hp and 262 ft-lbs of torque at 4,500 RPM, a 100-hp increase over the GS trim. It gets from 0-60 in 7 seconds and reduces fuel economy only slightly, to 16/25 mpg, thanks to variable valve timing (although it requires premium gas).
This convertible seats four, with a power cloth top that retracts in less than 20 seconds. It comes with a glass window and defroster. Rear seats offer only 27.7 inches of legroom, and the trunk holds only 5 cubic feet, but it comes with tiedowns. Standard additions with the 2009 Eclipse Spyder GT include larger 18-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, traction and stability control, xenon HID lamps, and a temperature display and compass. Carrying over from the GS are power windows, locks, and mirrors, remote entry, tilt and power steering, and wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls. Leather trim covers the steering wheel and shifter. The 9-speaker Rockford Fosgate sound system features a 6-CD changer with MP3 playback and satellite radio. A tachometer, intermittent front wipers, two front power outlets, and air conditioning are all standard.
Alongside the traction and stability control, you'll find dual front-side airbags with passenger deactivation, 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, and front and rear stabilizer bars. Rounding out the safety profile are foglights and a tire monitor. A special GT Sport Package adds heated leather seats, alloy pedals, a power driver's seat, and exterior scuff plates. An iPod adapter and windscreen can also be added.
