2009 Kia Optima SX Trim Overview

New for 2009, the sport-oriented Kia Optima SX trim features a sport-tuned suspension and a number of exterior features designed to distinguish the SX from other Optima trims, including a black-bezeled front grille, blacked-out projection headlights, and silver-finished 17-inch wheels, an upgrade over the 16-inch wheels found on the other Optima trims. Other standard exterior features include front foglights and LED turn signals located on the heated exterior mirrors. For power, the Optima SX comes equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 175 hp and 169 lb-ft of torque. The engine links to a five-speed automatic with Sportmatic, which enables drivers to upshift and downshift by tapping up or down on the shift knob. The EPA estimates fuel economy numbers for the '09 Optima SX at 22/32 mpg. Despite the Optima SX's sporty nature, such safety- and performance-oriented features as antilock brakes, traction control, brake assist, and an electronic stability program must be added as options, as part of the Electronic Stability Control Package.

Inside, the '09 Kia Optima SX includes such standard features as sport cloth and black leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, aluminum interior trim, metal pedals, air conditioning, keyless entry, and a six-speaker AM/FM audio system with Sirius satellite radio and an MP3 input jack. Options include heated front seats, a navigation system, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and an Infinity audio system with an in-dash 6-CD changer. The Supervision instrument gauges feature red-white LED lighting, designed to enhance the visibility of the gauges, according to the automaker. The rear seat splits 60/40 and folds down to expand cargo space. Six standard airbags, including front-seat mounted side and full-length side curtain airbags, also come standard.
