The 2009 Kia Optima EX midsize sedan delivers an updated interior with a number of features not found on the entry-level LX trim, including leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror with a compass, and a trip computer. The Optima EX also offers a number of options not available on the entry-level LX, including power-adjustable pedals and heated front seats. In addition, Kia offers an optional navigation system, newly available for '09. Other standard features for the '09 Optima EX include steering-wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls, keyless entry, and a six-speaker AM/FM audio system with Sirius satellite radio and an MP3 input jack. Owners can upgrade to an Infinity audio system with an in-dash 6-CD changer.
Outside, the '09 Optima EX displays a number of new features, including updated front and rear fascia as well as revised headlights, taillights, and foglights, as well as a chrome front grille, chrome door handles, and power heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals. The Optima EX receives a boost in power for '09, thanks to its 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which generates 175 hp, an increase of 13 hp over the previous year's four-cylinder. The upgraded engine produces 169 lb-ft of torque and links to a five-speed automatic with Sportmatic tap-up/tap-down manual shifting. Fuel economy for the four-cylinder engine checks in at 22/32 mpg, according to EPA estimates. The '09 Optima EX comes equipped with six airbags, including front-seat-mounted side and full-length side curtain airbags. An optional Electronic Stability Control Package adds antilock brakes, traction control, brake assist, and an electronic stability program. The '09 Optima EX rides on 16-inch alloy wheels.
