The 2009 Hyundai Elantra GLS is the base trim for this model. The GLS comes with a 2-liter inline-four (I4) engine capable of 138 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque that gets 24 city/33 highway mpg when paired with the standard five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic transmission is optional and gets 25/33 mpg.
The GLS's exterior features 15-inch steel wheels with full covers and P195/65R15 tires; body-color bumpers, heated dual power mirrors, door handles, and rear garnish; chrome accent grille; tinted glass; and remote keyless entry. The 2009 Hyundai Elantra SE adds plenty of features to the base GLS while keeping the same drivetrain. The exterior features include 16-inch five-spoke Euroflange alloy wheels with P205/55R16 tires, foglights, and a windshield shade band. Its performance is enhanced by electronic stability control with traction control and brake assist. The interior upgrades include air-conditioning; cruise control; a trip computer; cruise control; a telescoping, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls; a leather shift knob; dual front illuminated vanity mirrors; and a 172-Watt AM/FM/XM Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system with six speakers (two front-door-mounted speakers, two tweeters, and two rear speakers), iPod®/USB/Auxiliary input jacks, and three months of free XM Satellite Radio service.
