The 2009 Hyundai Elantra GLS is the base trim for this model. The GLS comes with a 2-liter inline-four (I4) engine capable of 138 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque that gets 24 city/33 highway mpg when paired with the standard five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic transmission is optional and gets 25/33 mpg.
The GLS's exterior features 15-inch steel wheels with full covers and P195/65R15 tires; body-color bumpers, heated dual power mirrors, door handles, and rear garnish; chrome accent grille; tinted glass; and remote keyless entry. The interior features power windows and locks; a 60/40-split fold-down rear seatback; frontal, front seat side-impact, and side curtain airbags; an antilock brake system with electronic brakeforce distribution and four-wheel disc brakes; active front head restraints and adjustable head restraints for all seating positions.
