2009 Honda Odyssey Trims

Avg. Price: $16,376

For 2009, the Honda Odyssey EX minivan is the lower mid-level trim in the Odyssey lineup, offering not only the plethora of standard features common to the base Odyssey LX, but with some additional goodies besides. Heading the list of additional standard equipment on the ’09 Odyssey EX is Honda’s unique PlusOne second-row seating, featuring removable second-row captain’s chairs flanking a fold-flat middle seat. The PlusOne configuration features cloth bucket front seats and fold-flat third-row bench seats. All this folding and removing capability allows for 147 cubic feet of total cargo capacity. Add to that the ’09 Odyssey EX’s 16-inch alloy wheels, three-zone climate control, eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, roof rack, dual rear power-sliding doors, a universal remote transmitter, and a 6-CD changer with six speakers, and this trim seems very well equipped. Topping it all off are the standard safety features common to all ’09 Odyssey trims, including four-wheel disc ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution and emergency braking assist, traction and stability control, front side-mounted airbags, three-row head curtain airbags, daytime running lights, and a remote anti-theft alarm.

As is standard through the Odyssey line, the 2009 Honda Odyssey EX packs a 3.5-liter SOHC V6 engine and five-speed automatic transmission good for 244 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. With no all-wheel drive (AWD) option currently available, the ’09 Odyssey line is offered only in a front-wheel-drive configuration.

Adding several more standard comfort and convenience features, as well as the 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 (the “i” stands for “intelligent”), the 2009 Honda Odyssey EX-L is notched just above the EX in the Odyssey minivan lineup. The EX-L's additional standard features include a power liftgate, leather-trimmed upholstery, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a four-way power-adjustable passenger seat, heated front seats, a power moonroof, Sirius/XM satellite radio, and rear backup sensors. Taking things a step or two beyond, a voice-activated DVD-based navigation system and rear-seat DVD entertainment system are each available for the ’09 Odyssey EX-L trim.

Honda’s front-wheel-drive 2009 Odyssey EX-L features a standard 244-hp, 3.5-liter SOHC V6. Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology, featuring cylinder de-activation at cruising speeds, improves the ’09 Odyssey EX-L's fuel economy (17/25 mpg) and adds 5 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain is still mated with the standard five-speed automatic transmission.

Although the 2009 Honda Odyssey LX is the base trim of the Odyssey minivan lineup, its features are hardly basic. Beginning with its cloth bucket front seats, the front-wheel-drive, seven-passenger, five-door ’09 Odyssey LX features such standard appearance, comfort, and convenience offerings as 16-inch steel wheels, a rear spoiler, power windows, door locks, and mirrors, steering-wheel-mounted cruise controls, front and rear automatic air conditioning, removable second-row reclining captain's chairs, split-folding third-row bench seats, a telescoping and tilting steering wheel, manual sliding rear door, floor mats, an overhead console with storage bin, and a 120-watt, MP3-capable single-CD player with four speakers. With all this standard equipment, the ’09 Odyssey LX apparently has no need of any exotic options, thus Honda offers none. Standard safety features, of course, reflect the entire Odyssey lineup.

As its only powertrain offering, the ’09 Honda Odyssey LX, as well as the rest of the Odyssey trims, is delivered with a 3.5-liter SOHC V6 engine, coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission. This pairing puts out 244 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque, allowing the ’09 Odyssey LX to tow 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. Fuel economy remains at 16/23 mpg.

The 2009 Honda Odyssey Touring minivan is the indisputable king of the Odyssey lineup. The ’09 Odyssey Touring offers a number of additional standard appearance, comfort, and convenience features, including 17-inch alloy wheels, the Honda voice-activated DVD navigation system, a rear backup camera, DVD rear-seat entertainment, and a 360-watt premium sound system starring a 6-CD changer and seven speakers, including a subwoofer. Opting for the ’09 Odyssey Touring trim with the PAX system means the additional safety of 460-mm run-flat tires.

The ’09 Odyssey Touring is, of course, equipped with the 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 engine, which, combined with a standard five-speed automatic transmission and cylinder deactivation at cruising speeds, delivers 244 hp and 245 lb-ft of torque to the tune of 17/25 mpg.
