For the driving enthusiast who doesn’t mind front-wheel drive, the Civic Si is the sportiest of Honda's Civic trims for 2009. Uprated 11.8-inch front and 10.2-inch rear antilock disc brakes with brake assist and antiskid sit behind 17-inch wheels wrapped in performance tires. The suspension has been reworked for a more aggressive ride able to handle a bit of pushing, while traction control and a limited-slip differential make sure you’ll be able to apply every bit of extra horsepower the Si delivers. That comes via a 2.0-liter, 197-hp inline four-cylinder attached to a six-speed manual transmission.
Of course, half the fun of a premium trim level is making sure everyone knows. For the Si, this is taken care of via a custom color-matched rear spoiler, color matched power windows and door handles, a power moonroof, a chrome exhaust tip - something Honda calls a “finisher” - and integrated front foglights. Inside are several other Si-unique touches, like an aluminum shift knob with leather boot, textured aluminum pedals, satin-finish door handles, and red ambient console lighting.
The steering wheel is wrapped in perforated leather and allows for tilt and telescoping for finding the perfect position, and includes integrated controls for the CD/MP3 stereo with a digital media connection and satellite radio. Air conditioning and cruise control are standard, as well as reclining front bucket seats. All seats come with three-point belts, but the fronts are fitted with automatic tensioning systems and active head restraints. Power windows and doors are further creature comforts, as well as remote entry, an integrated rear window antenna, tire pressure monitoring system, variable intermittent front wipers and rear defogger, a center console, tachometer, and an outside temperature indicator. Of course, at this level, floormats and a 12-volt outlet are also standard.
Additional safety features include dual stage/threshold front airbags, front side and side curtain airbags, side impact door beams, and daytime running lights.
