2009 Dodge Caliber SE Review
ProsRoomier than it looks, lighted thermal cup holders ConsEngine power, Engine noise, Road noise, Cheap materials, Poor handling, Gas mileage poor, 12 gallon gas tank

Not Sure What I Was Thinking. There Are Dozens Of Us And Foreign Cars That Would Be A Better Choice. — Believe the expert reviews. Worst car I have ever driven, including rentals and other peoples old beaters. Couldn't wait to get rid of it. Bought it because I was driving a lot (200 miles/day) and needed better gas mileage. Gas mileage was terrible and with the tiny gas tank, I was filling up every 2 days. Got about 200 miles before fuel light came on. My Dad gets better mileage on his 8 cylinder Cadillac. Car was noisy, interior noise was almost unbearable. Handling was awful, always made wide turns. Bad engine, no power, very loud. Caliber is cheaply built, don't expect to see many of these on the road in 5 years.

2009 Dodge Caliber SE Review
ProsIt's nice looking. ConsHas enormous blind spots from the driver's perspective - can't tell where the front end is, where the back end is, where anything is on the right at all. Transmission is a complete piece of junk. It has to be replaced all at the same time instead of maybe fixing a part. I bought this car in August 2009 and the transmission had to be replaced in January 2011 and here we are doing that again in June 2012. It's good for about 18 months. If you hit the brakes at the same time you hit a bump or a pothole, the car actually lurches forward. There is no pickup to speak of, which makes getting up to highway speed on an interstate on-ramp impossible. People tailgate me all the time because of its low performance, especially from a dead start. The continuous variable transmission ought to be outlawed - you might as well consider it to be disposable, because the company obviously does. If it lives long enough for me to pay it off, I will set it on fire and go buy a Ford Ranger - mine was 10 years old and had 120,000 miles on it before it had transmission problems, and got about the same gas mileage as this one does.

ProsVery Roomy and Fun to Drive. ConsBecause of the cars weight and size even thought it is a compact and a 4 cylinder it burns gas more like a 6 cylinder car. Personally I would rather have the room so I don't mine.

You Get A Mid-sized Car At A Compact Price. — Fun car to drive, great power for a 4 cylinder. It's like getting a mid-size car for the price of a compact, but of course being a little heavier and bigger you burn a little more gas. Great style. This is a great family car, great for kids, and a good size trunk with a nice cover if you choose to use it. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Can't Stand My Car — acceleration - sucks, braking is normal - nothing special like the interior - but nothing special either, cheap on gas - but not the cheapest yo ucan find nowadays, cheap price, no fun at all to drive it. I f I had had more money and more time to look for a car back then, I would have never bought this car Primary Use: Commuting to work

Proscomfy interior, handles nice. ConsShifter in odd spot takes getting used to, 1.8L seems under powered for its size.

Love The Caliber — 50 MPG. It was cheaper to buy new than used. Drives nice, it's comfortable, and a 5 speed. It is surprisingly big. Problem with backing up though, when looking through the rear window it looks like whatever is behind you are right on top of it, but really is not so close.

ProsCompact car with a great pick up featuring the 2.0L engine. Great for new drivers or small families. Lots of room for kids and ideal for a shopping or day trip with the family. ConsLow to the ground.

Great, Safe, Affordable Starter Car — Loved everything about the car while we needed it. Took many day-trips with this car and it provided us with a safe and reliable travel. Now we are looking for a SUV and something with a little more room inside as we build our family. Primary Use: Family transportation

ProsLooks good ConsEverything mechanical about it.

Hate Hate Hate - Going Back To Ford. — I forgot to say that all the reviewers above who say they use it for "spirited driving" must mean driving while intoxicated, because you can't even use it for boring driving. It has absolutely NO get up and go. Spirited driving, that's a real laugh.

ProsI love my 09 CSRT4. first off, it is Deep Water Blue and this is 1 of 114 world wide. The Car was only produced for 2 years and there are a grand total of 5,622 running around. The CSRT4 is rare and i love it. Despite the fact that the aftermarket world is limited on options, shops such as Realtuned Performance have done some amazing things for this car. I have owned it since new and have put every mile on it myself. Drove from Alaska to Savannah GA, then moved to Tacoma WA where it resides now. I love this car but i think it is about time to get something AWD, My Betty Blue will be going up for sale in September of this year so if you are interested, Please contact me here or visit me on FB on our page, CSRT4 Movement or CaliberSRT4.net ConsFWD but the stock 19" Wheels and i laced them with 245/45 Hankook Evo's and it eliminated near all torque steer.

I Fall In Love With This Car All Over Again Every Time I See It — Easy to mod, plenty of bay room and a very close nit, active community. Great gas mileage! I was peaking 41mpg @ 88mph cruise control when i traveled across country and have yet to see anything less than 22mpg even when speeding through town. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Cailber Is A Good Car — The Acceleration is Good but a Porsche can beat me, braking is fine, love the way it handles, i feel safe in the car. The miles is not as Good as my Honda but i understand that its a different car and the miles are comparable to the same vehicle. Primary Use: Commuting to work |
