CarGurus Overview

2009 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ

The top-of-the-line Avalanche LTZ offers a number of features not available in other Avalanche trims, including heated and cooled leather-appointed front bucket seats, a Bose Centerpoint surround-sound system, Rainsense front wipers, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, and an Autoride suspension, which continually and automatically varies the shock-damping rate, depending on the road surface, steering angle, and other factors, to maximize handling and passenger comfort. In addition, a rear self-leveling feature helps maintain the appropriate rear suspension level when fully loaded or pulling a trailer. Other standard features for the rear-wheel-drive, six-passenger LTZ include a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals, dual-zone climate control, a remote starter, and an Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist, which uses beeps and flashing lights to alert drivers when stationary objects are within 8 feet of the vehicle when backing up.

A 5.3-liter Vortec V8 engine generating 310 hp and 335 lb-ft of torque powers the LTZ, but drivers can opt for a 6.0-liter V8 producing 366 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. Both engines come equipped with Active Fuel Management, which shuts down four cylinders when they're not required to conserve fuel, and link to a six-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Such features as GM's StabiliTrak electronic stability program, an automatic locking rear differential, roof-mounted luggage-rack side rails, and chrome-capped power-folding heated exterior mirrors with auto-dimming on the driver's side also come standard.

2009 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ 4WD

As the best-equipped Avalanche trim available for 2009, the LTZ 4WD comes with a wide range of standard features, including Chevy's Autotrac four-wheel-drive system, which provides additional traction and stability in all types of driving conditions. It joins such standard features as an Autoride suspension, which continually makes adjustments to the shocks to ensure optimal handling and ride comfort, and an automatic locking rear differential, which locks the rear axle and sends maximum power to the rear wheels when it detects rear slippage. A 310-hp, 5.3-liter V8 engine provides standard power, while an optional 6.0-liter V8 upgrades the power quotient to 366 hp. Both engines feature FlexFuel capability, so they can run on E85 fuel, and Active Fuel Management, which conserves fuel by shutting down four of the eight cylinders when they're not necessary, such as at cruising speeds. A six-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission with a manual shift feature comes standard.

Inside, the six-passenger Avalanche LTZ 4WD includes such standard features as heated and cooled leather-appointed front bucket seats, a leather-wrapped multifuntion steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable pedals, and a Bose Centerpoint surround-sound audio system with a 6-CD changer, XM satellite radio, rear audio controls, and a subwoofer in the center console. Other standard features include Bluetooth wireless connectivity, a remote starter system, and an Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist, which alerts the driver using beeps and flashing lights when it detects stationary objects within 8 feet of the vehicle when backing up. Outside, standard features include Rainsense front wipers, roof-mounted luggage-rack side rails, and chrome-capped, power-folding, heated outside mirrors with auto-dimming on the driver's side.
