2008 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner Double Cab V6 LB

PreRunners are differentiated from other 4x2 Tacomas by a bolder exterior appearance. The Double Cab features four full-size doors and seating for five. This particular variation also features the expanded bed, stretching from the standard 60.3 inches to 73 inches. Standard features include air conditioning, CD player, rear cup holders, power windows, and power door locks. Toytota's TRD Sport package is optional.

Double Cab variants are available only with a V6, and the long-bed trucks all come with the 5-speed automatic transmission. The 4.0-liter V6 supplies 236 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque and will achieve fuel economy of 19/22 mpg.

PreRunners are rear-wheel-drive 4x2 trucks with the aggressive good looks of a durable 4x4. The PreRunner is a more-expensive option than the regular 4x2 trucks, and it is available on all three cab sizes. All Double Cabs come standard with air conditioning, CD player, rear cup holders, power windows, and two 12-volt power outlets. Buyers may choose between a 60- and a 73-inch bed. TRD Sport and the V6 towing option packages are also available on this model.

Double Cab Tacomas are available only with the V6. This 4.0-liter V6 debuted in 2006, offering 236 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. It's mated to either a 5-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual. EPA mixed driving estimates are in the high teens.

Regular Cab Tacomas house the 2.7-liter DOHC inline four, which generates 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. Toyota's VVTi variable valve timing technology not only improves engine power, but also enhances efficiency; this Tacoma will reach into the high 20s (mpg) for highway mileage.
