Remote start is newly standard in the 2008 Suzuki XL-7 Limited, and the now-optional rearview camera (offered only in the Limited) helps reduce the hazard of blind spots in this largest midsize offering from the Japanese automaker. The Limited represents the top of the lineup, available in either front-wheel or automatic on-demand all-wheel drive, which drives power to the front wheels by default, but can split torque up to 50/50 front and back. Unlike the Premium and Luxury, it comes only as a seven-passenger, three-row SUV. Though the first two rows offer ample 40- and 38-inch legroom, the third row offers only 30 inches, and with all seats up, the cargo area holds only 14 cubic feet. The third row split-folds 50/50 and folds flat, the second row split-folds 60/40 and tumbles up, and the front passenger seat folds flat, for 95 cubic feet of cargo room. A roof rack is standard, and the 2008 XL-7 Limited can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
Under the hood is a 3.6-liter, 252-hp DOHC V6 with variable valve timing. It delivers 243 ft-lbs of torque, 16/22 mpg, and is matched to a five-speed shiftable automatic. A fully independent and multilink rear suspension provides car-like feel behind the wheel. Front-wheel-drive versions come with a self-leveling suspension. The Limited rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires. Four-wheel disc and ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, rollover sensors, traction and stability control, automatic headlights, daytime running lights, a tire monitor, and dual front and side curtain airbags for all rows are standard. The 2008 XL-7 Limited adds standard foglights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a rear spoiler, and skid plates, though the AWD is not meant for off-roading.
In addition to remote start, the 2008 XL-7 Limited comes with a voice-activated navigation system. An optional DVD player for the Limited can be added only if you remove the navigation system and standard sunroof. Other equipment includes full power features, remote entry, a six-way power driver's seat, leather upholstery and trim for the steering wheel, heated seats, cruise control, and wheel-mounted audio controls for the 6-CD/MP3 player. The Limited is also the only trim that comes ready for satellite radio. Intermittent front wipers and a rear wiper, tilt steering wheel, a compass and temperature display, three rows of cupholders, three power outlets (including one in the cargo area), and rear climate control are other conveniences.
