Moving up to the 2008 Town Car Signature L gets you six more inches in overall length and wheelbase. That translates to an extra five inches of rear legroom, for a total of 45 inches. The front legroom (41 inches), hip room (58), shoulder room (60) and trunk capacity (21 cubic feet) remain the same. Under the hood of this rear-wheel drive full-size luxury sedan sits a 4.6-liter single overhead cam V8, with 239-hp and 287 ft-lbs of torque. It is matched to a 4-speed automatic. The sedan features a self-leveling suspension, along with a front independent and rear live suspension.
Other upgrades offered in the 2008 Town Car Signature L are heated rear seats, in addition to the front seats, rear audio controls, controls for the front passenger seat, and a storage compartment in both front and rear folding armrests. Otherwise, the luxury features are the same as the Limited. A full power setup include a power trunk lid, remote keypad entry, a garage remote, power-adjustable pedals, and 8-way power front seats with driver's memory. Wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls, a 9-speaker 6-CD sound system, a trip computer, security system, leather and wood trim, intermittent wipers, and a temperature and compass display are also standard. The sedan seats six, but realistically five, with the front buckets split-folding 40/20/40. There are four cupholders.
In terms of safety, the sedan earns the highest marks, thanks to dual front airbags, traction control, and 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution. Stability control is not offered. The 17-inch alloy wheels hold all-season tires and come with a tire pressure monitor. Also standard are automatic headlights, cornering lights, parking sensors, and auto-dimming mirrors. Xenon HID headlamps cost extra. A trunk organizer, daytime running lights, and a flex fuel version of the V8 are other options.
