This rear-wheel drive mid-sized SUV offers the top-line features for a Kia, at a much more affordable price than comparably sized vehicles. The 2008 Kia Sorento EX hits 262-hp with its 3.8-liter DOHC V6 engine and 5-speed shiftable automatic. Torque tops 260 ft-lbs at 4500 RPM. The four-wheel independent suspension combines a double wishbone front and rear multilink suspension, and the SUV rides on 16-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires. Unlike on the LX, 17-inch wheels are not available.
Upgraded features include an 8-way power driver's seat, a trip computer, a compass and temperature display, a garage remote, wheel-mounted audio and cruise control, leather trim for the steering wheel and shifter, and faux wood accents. These join full power features, a security system, remote entry, a CD/MP3 player, a tachometer, and front and rear intermittent wipers. The cargo area holds 31.7 cubic feet and comes with tie-downs, a cover, and in-floor storage compartments. A roof rack is also standard. The 2008 Sorento EX adds a power rear window, which opens separately from the rear door. A luxury package adds a sunroof, heated leather seats, chrome accents, and a 6-CD changer. Other options include remote start, a rear spoiler, and a tow hitch.
An auto-dimming rearview mirror and foglights are added safety features to this SUV that earns five stars in impact tests. Also standard are ABS brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, traction and stability control, automatic headlights, a tire monitor, front head restraints, and dual front-side, knee, and side curtain airbags.
