CarGurus Overview
The 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon adds 20 inches to the length of a standard Wrangler and has four doors and more standard features. But the real story behind this trim is its four-wheel-drive performance. Featuring low-range gearing, a front and rear locking and limited-slip rear differential, 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, a front stabilizer bar that can be disengaged to add to the vehicle's 10 inches of ground clearance, skid plates, and a 4WD transfer case, the 2008 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon can take you anywhere you want to go. Although the 202-hp, 3.8-liter V6 and 6-speed manual can be sluggish, the solid live axle front and rear suspension provide easy and responsive handling. A 4-speed automatic is optional.
The four doors are removable, as is the Sunrider soft top with sunroof. An optional hard top comes with a glass window and rear wiper. Four-wheel disc and ABS brakes, dual front-side airbags, traction and stability control with rollover protection, a tire monitor, and foglights are standard. Focused on off-roading, the Rubicon features less standard equipment than the Unlimited Sahara. Power windows, locks, and remote entry are optional. But the 2008 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon does feature cruise control, intermittent wipers, a temperature display and compass, leather steering wheel, satellite radio, and a CD/MP3 player with jack. Its extra length adds 20 inches to the cargo area, and the Unlimited offers 1,500 more pounds of towing capacity (3,500 total with the towing package). The doors are removable and the windshield folds down. Along with the power options, available features include a navigation system, remote start, a security system, and a 6-CD player with hard drive and MyGIG entertainment system.
This overview covers the Unlimited Rubicon 4WD trim only.
