CarGurus Overview
The 2008 Jeep Patriot Sport 4x2 is an affordable, rugged-looking SUV with such standard features as anti-lock brakes, traction control, an electronic roll mitigation system, and side-curtain airbags.
The front-wheel-drive vehicle is powered by a
2.4-liter, double-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower. A five-speed manual transmission is standard.
The Sport 4x2, which is the entry-level Patriot, comes with a stripped-down list of standard features, including a four-speaker AM/FM stereo system with a CD player, a tilt steering wheel, intermittent wipers, an anti-theft system, rack-and-pinion steering, halogen headlights, and brake assist, which provides maximum braking in emergencies.
Options include air conditioning, power windows, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power door locks, an illuminated entry system, and a premium nine-speaker stereo system with a six-disc CD changer and MP3 player.
For better fuel efficiency, the Patriot Sport is also available with an optional 158-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with variable valve timing. It's available with a Continuously Variable Transaxle (CVT) transmission for maximum efficiency. However, drivers and reviewers have noted that while it's efficient, the CVT can be noisy in aggressive motoring situations, such as when accelerating rapidly or ascending a steep slope.
This overview covers the Sport trim only.
