The 2008 Hyundai Veracruz SE AWD's full-time AWD and mechanical center differential add a bit of weight to the seven-seat SUV, reducing fuel economy to 15 city/22 highway and towing capacity to 3,500 pounds. But they also add security in tricky driving situations. Combined with 18-inch alloy wheels and all-season tires, electronic brakeforce distribution, 4-wheel ABS and disc brakes, traction and stability control, a tire-pressure monitor, and dual front and side curtain airbags, this trim package gets five-star crash ratings. Other safety features include an auto-dimming rearview mirror and foglights, and backup sensors are available as an option. The 2008 Veracruz SE AWD boasts a 260-hp, 3.8-liter DOHC V6 and 6-speed Shiftronic transmission that deliver 257 ft-lbs of torque.
Like the front-wheel drive SE, the AWD comes standard with an 8-way power driver's seat, rear climate control, full power features, wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls for the CD/MP3 player and satellite radio, intermittent front and rear wipers, leather trim, a trip computer, temperature and compass display, and security system. Two cupholders per row and four power outlets, including a new one in the trunk, and a console/beverage cooler keep passengers entertained. A roof rack is standard on the SE AWD, and a tow hitch can be added to supplement the cargo area. With the rear seats folded flat and the second row folded and pushed forward, capacity expands from 6.5 to 87 cubic feet. New options this year include a power tailgate in addition to a sunroof, leather seats, a 6-CD changer, DVD player, and first aid kit.
