2008 Honda S2000 Trims

Avg. Price: $23,932

This rear-wheel-drive convertible sports car focuses on acceleration, power, and performance, and sacrifices a few standard features to fulfill these goals. The 2008 Honda S2000 Base hits 237 hp with its 2.2-liter DOHC VTEC inline four-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission. Torque is relatively low, at 167 ft-lbs. A performance-tuned double-wishbone front and rear suspension with front and rear stabilizer bars helps hug the curves, along with 17-inch alloy wheels and performance tires. Dual front airbags, traction control, four-wheel disc and ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, a tire monitor, and xenon HID headlights are all standard. Stability control is also standard and can be disengaged for more road feel.

Decked out in leather upholstery and alloy trim, the two-seat soft-top 2008 S2000 Base sits 4.2 inches off the ground. Interior equipment includes sport seats, power windows, locks, and mirrors, remote entry, wheel-mounted cruise control, air conditioning, and a CD player. Intermittent wipers, a tachometer, and a temperature display are also included. The S2000 Base manages to fit in front cupholders and two front power outlets. The 5-cubic-foot trunk features a net. Dealer-installed options include satellite radio, an 8-CD changer, a security system, and front and rear spoilers.

New this year, the Club Racer trim boosts performance by strengthening the shocks, springs, stabilizer bars, and suspension in this two-seat convertible racer. Geared toward the track, the rear-wheel-drive 2008 Honda S2000 CR retains the Base trim's 237-hp, 2.2-liter, DOHC VTEC inline four-cylinder engine, 6-speed short-throw manual transmission, and double-wishbone front and rear suspension, but makes enhancements by adding a limited-slip rear differential, front and rear spoilers, and a quicker steering ratio. Available only in shocking blue, the limited-edition 2008 S2000 CR features special black badging, gray 17-inch alloy wheels with performance tires, and interior suede sport seats with yellow stitching.

Alloy interior trim is replaced by carbon fiber, and the spherical shift knob recalls true race cars. Air conditioning and the CD player/radio have been jettisoned to reduce weight (and improve acceleration), but these can be added as options. The retractable soft top of the Base is replaced with a removable hardtop. Other standard equipment includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a tachometer and temperature display, intermittent wipers, a full power setup, remote entry, and wheel-mounted cruise control. 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, dual front airbags, traction and stability control (which can be disengaged), a tire monitor, and xenon HID headlamps are part of the standard safety features in the 2008 S2000 CR.
