Like the SXT, the 2008 Dodge Magnum R/T is available with all-wheel drive, mating the engine to a mechanical center differential and a 5-speed auto transmission with manual mode. The extra security that comes with the full-time all-wheel drive adds a bit of weight and therefore reduces fuel economy from 19/26 to 15/22 mpg city/highway. Better road grip is a result of 18-inch wheels with all-season tires, 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, and traction and stability control.
Other safety features include automatic headlights, foglights, a tire-pressure monitor, and dual front and seat-mounted airbags. Side curtain airbags are optional. Disguised as a family crossover, the 2008 Magnum R/T AWD is an aggressive powerhouse, thanks to the 340-hp, 5.7-liter Hemi V8 under its hood. A rear spoiler, chrome accents, and a larger front grille add even more menace. Cylinder deactivation features improve fuel economy by shutting down cylinders when not in use.
The 2008 Magnum R/T AWD adds leather upholstery and a 6-way power passenger seat to the equipment list, joining the full power setup, power driver's seat, heated mirrors, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, a security system, temperature display, intermittent front and rear wipers, leather trim, satellite radio, and CD/MP3 player. An extra iPod hookup is also provided. Two rows of seats are supposed to seat five, but really fit four comfortably, with the rear seats split-folding 60/40.
The cargo area comes with a power outlet, tie-downs, and a cover, and expands from 27 to 72 cubic feet. A roof rack is available. Media options include a 6-CD changer, a hard drive, satellite TV, and a DVD player with remote. Also available are a navigation system, sunroof, heated seats, and wheel-mounted audio controls. A performance package beefs up the wheels and adds a sport-tuned suspension, tires, and exhaust.
