The 2008 Chevrolet Express LT 3500 adds a fourth-row bench seat to fit up to 12 passengers in a rear-wheel-drive utility van that sits on a 135-inch wheelbase. The extra weight requires extra power, and a 6.0-liter, 323-hp V8 is standard. It rates 373 ft-lbs of torque and is matched with a four-speed automatic with overdrive. Gas mileage is in the low double digits, but the van can tow up to 7,600 pounds. With the fourth row folded down and the second and third rows removed, the van holds up to 204 cubic feet of cargo. A 60/40-split hinged passenger-side door provides access, and a sliding side door is optional.
The 2008 Express LT 3500 rides on 16-inch wheels with all-season tires. StabiliTrak is new this year, in addition to traction control, four-wheel disc and ABS brakes, a new tire monitor, halogen headlamps, daytime running lights, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags for the first three rows. The front passenger airbag has been revised this year. The 2008 Express LT 3500 sports a chrome grille and trim. Interior comfort and convenience is provided by standard cruise control, a full power setup, remote entry, a radio, dual-zone climate control, intermittent wipers, a trip computer, and front power outlets and cupholders. Cloth replaces vinyl as the seat material, and a compass is standard in the 3500.
A CD/MP3 player or 6-CD changer with wheel-mounted audio controls is optional. Other extras include 6-way power front seats, heated mirrors with turn signals, a temperature display, and a first aid kit. A three-row option is available, which may be useful for those needing a family vehicle rather than a shuttle bus.
