CarGurus Overview
Chevrolet expands the Equinox lineup for 2008 with the addition of the Equinox Sport, an aptly named, sport-tuned version of Chevy's crossover vehicle. The Equinox Sport features a lowered, sport-tuned suspension and a more powerful 264-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 engine with Variable Valve Timing. Thanks to its pumped-up horsepower, the engine can drive the Equinox Sport from 0 to 60 in just under seven seconds. It links to a six-speed automatic transmission equipped with a Tap Up/Tap Down feature, which enables drivers to shift manually.
In addition, to improve the sportiness of the new trim, Chevy removed its roof rack, added body-color bumpers and fascia, and upgraded the interior with Sport Cloth high-bolstered front bucket seats and Sport-specific instrument gauges (including a 140-mph speedometer). The Sport Equinox also comes equipped with such features as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, OnStar, and remote keyless entry. Options include a power sunroof, side-impact airbags, a DVD entertainment system, and a touch-screen navigation system.
A Multi-Flex sliding rear seat can be slid back to provide plenty of legroom for rear-seat passengers, or slid forward to provide additional cargo space. As a result, the Equinox Sport offers plenty of interior room for a vehicle its size, according to drivers and reviewers. Drivers also note that the Sport offers a smooth, comfortable ride, even over rough roads and long distances. Reliability, handling, acceleration, braking, and interior comfort all get positive marks. Four-wheel antilock brakes and the StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System, both of which come as standard equipment, help improve traction and stability.
This overview covers the Sport trim only.
