2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base Trim Overview

A new LS3 engine and tweaked 6-speed manual give the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Base a lot more get up and go. The 6.2-liter V8 makes use of its new intake manifold to produce 430 hp at 5,900 RPM and 424 ft-lbs of torque at 4,600 RPM. A sharp 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters is available. Fuel economy hovers around 16/26 mpg. This rear-wheel-drive coupe rides on a four-wheel active independent double-wishbone suspension, with 18-inch front and 19-inch rear painted alloy wheels and run-flat tires.

The 2008 Corvette Base seats two in two-tone stitched leather seats. The driver gets a 6-way power seat. Full power features include keyless start, remote entry, and heated mirrors. Dual-zone climate control, cruise control, tilt steering, hands-free phone controls, a trip computer, and a 7-speaker CD/MP3 player with MP3 input and satellite radio are all standard. Rounding out the package are intermittent wipers, a security system, a tachometer, a temperature readout and compass, and two front power outlets.

Though not yet rated in crash tests, the 2008 Corvette Base does feature traction and stability control, 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, and dual front airbags. Side airbags cost extra. Lighting the way are automatic headlights with xenon HID lamps, and foglights. A tire monitor and OnStar are also standard. Plenty of premium options are available, including a power passenger seat, memory settings, a heads-up display (driver information projected onto windshield), a garage opener, a 6-CD changer with Bose sound system, and a navigation system. On the performance side, an adjustable suspension and dual exhaust are offered.
