CarGurus Overview

2008 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ 4WD

The on-demand 4WD system in this full-size pickup comes with low-range gearing, a rear locking differential, and mechanical and locking center differentials. Combined with the standard skid plates, 20-inch wheels (18-inch available), the automatic rear load leveling and adaptive suspension, the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ 4WD marries functionality and heft with interior comfort and luxury. Power is supplied by a 320-hp, 5.3-liter flex-fuel V8 and 4-speed automatic, which can tow around 8,000 pounds. A 6.3-liter, 366-hp V8 can be substituted.

Utility comes in the form of a 5-foot pickup bed that features tie-downs, a hard cover, a power outlet, and lockbox. A bed extension can be added. For extra space, remove the midgate wall and window and fold down the rear seats for an 8-foot-long bed. The cabin offers 39 inches of rear legroom, nearly matching the 41 in the front, and passengers get four cupholders, a power outlet, and audio controls. On the outside sit a roof rack, chrome moldings and side steprails, and a rear step. Safety features include 4-wheel ABS brakes, dual front and side impact airbags, stability control, rollover sensors, parking assist, and a rearview camera. A tire monitor, first aid kit, OnStar, auto-dimming rearview mirror, folding side mirrors, halogen lamps, foglights, automatic headlights, and rain-sensing wipers are also standard.

The luxury part is supplied by leather upholstery, heated front seats, 10-way power front seats with driver's side power lumbar and memory settings, and dual-zone climate control. The 6-CD changer comes with satellite radio and an MP3 jack, with audio controls on the steering wheel next to the cruise control. A trip computer, temperature display and compass, remote start, remote entry, a garage door opener, security system, and intermittent wipers round out the equipment list of the 2008 Avalanche LTZ 4WD. A DVD player, navigation system, and tilt sunroof are optional, along with powered sidesteps.

2008 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ

No, the LTZ doesn't stand for Lots and Lots of standard features, but it could. The top end of its full-size pickup lineup, Chevrolet's 2008 Avalanche LTZ adds performance enhancements, including an automatic adaptive suspension, rear locking differential, and automatic rear load-leveling, to accommodate different driving situations. The flex-fuel 5.3-liter, 320-hp V8 and 4-speed automatic transmission are standard, with the option to add a 6.0-liter, 366-hp V8. Towing capacity is 8,200 pounds with the standard tow hitch, and fuel economy averages around 14/20 mpg.

The 2008 Avalanche LTZ holds 45 cubic feet in its 5-foot bed. Tiedowns, a power outlet, lockbox, and hard cover are standard, as is a roof rack to supplement storage. The midgate wall and window can be removed and the rear seats folded down to produce an 8-foot bed, but this exposes front passengers to the elements. 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, stability control, rollover sensors, and dual front and side impact airbags are standard. Other safety features include folding mirrors, a rearview camera and backup sensors, a tire monitor for the standard 20-inch wheels with all-season tires, a first aid kit, OnStar, automatic headlights, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing wipers, and foglights.

As for luxury, 10-way power front seats with power lumbar and memory settings, heated seats, leather upholstery, full power features, remote start, remote entry, a garage opener, dual-zone climate control, front and rear audio controls for the 6-CD changer/MP3 player, and satellite radio should do the trick. Also included are cruise control, intermittent wipers, a security system, a trip computer, eight cupholders, several storage consoles, power outlets in the cabin and bed, and leather and wood trim. A DVD player, navigation system, and tilt sunroof are available options.
