CarGurus Overview

There had been many requests for the addition of an all-wheel drive option to the IS series.  The IS was previously available with only RWD, until the series was redesigned in 2006.  All-wheel drive was only available on the entry-level 250.  The more powerful 350s were all rear-wheel drive.  Also, the AWD 250 could only be had as a six-speed automatic.  The six-speed manual was reserved for the RWD model.
There were no additions to the IS 250 all-wheel drive model for 2007.  However, one thing could be taken away.  Many drivers who sought to fully embracing the sporting capability of the IS had found that the traction control system limited the IS's maneuverability.  The traction control system could now be turned off.   The IS 250 was powered by a small 2.5 liter V-6, which produced 204 horsepower and 185 pound feet of torque.  The compact sedan ran from 0 to 60 mph in just under eight seconds, and through the quarter mile in about 16.  AWD pulled fuel economy down slightly, from 24/32 mpg for the rear-wheel IS, to 22/28 mpg.
The ability to switch off stability and traction control greater revealed the potential of the IS.  The sedan was dusted by European competitors off the line, but its handling and ride quality were found by many testers to be superior.  The new generation IS was also marked by a much more luxurious interior than its predecessor.  Leather seats were now standard, and buyer could choose between a walnut or metallic trim finish.  Options included touch-screen navigation and a premium Mark Levinson audio system.

This overview covers the AWD trim only.
