Besides The Taillights, What's Not To Like? — I love this car... enough that I bought one after the test drive. It's an excellent car for the price and makes you feel as if you spent more. The engine is lively (do NOT drive the 2.0T FSI engine and then drive the 2.5 if you can afford the 2.0T but are trying to be fuel efficient... it just won't happen!), the car drives so well that you look forward to it in any weather, and the interior features are well appointed. For the gearheads, yes, there's a bit of turbo lag, but it's probably the least I've noticed in any turbo. And of course, as a front wheel drive, there's some understeer, but once again barely noticeable. Also, the trunk is huge... I have friends look in the trunk, then look at the car from the outside again and ask where the space comes from. Well, while I absolutely love my car, I do have some minor quibbles. First, The european jettas have much more attractive LED taillights. I believe that should be an option here in the states. Also, I wish there was a more "a'la carte" method of choosing options. The difference between package 1 (@$1500-1800) and package 2 (@$3000-3500) is huge, and there were a few things in package 2 I didn't want. Finally, for the gearheads once again, there's no launch control on the '06 GLI/GTIs, though you can get your car flashed to have it if you're willing to give VW another $500-600 of your money. Overall, I think this is an excellent car. Right price, right features and right level of fun for almost anyone. It's so fun, after switching cars with my dad for a week he almost refused to give it back... he was telling me he'd "let" me have his ML 320 so I could have more space for my family and he'd just find a way to manage with my car... nice try, dad!!!

Pros

worth the cost for the speed

Cons

costs a ton to fix

25

A Blast With A Price Tag — car is quick, handles great, car looks sharp, car is fun to drive as a 6 speed manual but cost alot to fix anything, have spent about 3000 in last year on maintenance and car only has 57000 kms on car

Pros

LEMON

Cons

LEMON due to electronic malfunction that caused the car to seize

25

Jettas Are Economical If You Do Not Get A Lemon — Electronics caused engine to quit and lock down due to a security feature Great on gas if the engine was properly built Cargo space was ample... backseat leg room limited Peep in her step for being a 2.0 but overall Lemon

Great Car — this car is great.Rides very comfy. The only thing that is a dislike is the vibration as you engage and disengage the clutch. I have just installed a set of michelin x ice snow tires!!!! this car is really quite fun to drive and handles very good. The coolest thing is when you turn your lights on at night the display is great!!!!

Pros

great little car that full fills all my needs

Cons

not as good in gas mileage as the older cars

25

Nice Little Package — rides great but I have noticed the gas mileage is not as good as my old 1996 golf probably due to the fact of another cylinder and heavier. IT still feels nimble and quick. Has lots of nice features that I like and it seems well made.

Pros

Its a Jetta

Cons

Its an MK5 Jetta

35

Its A Jetta — Performance- Needs to be faster. Build Quality- It's actually pretty solid. Appearance- Too girly for me... Cost of Ownership- It's pretty good on gas. 30 mpg city. Fun Factor- You can stand on it in the rain and burn through 4th gear ;)

Pros

It excelerates like a madman!!  Handling is awesome, overall sexy car!!

Cons

Minor problems like the stereo has some volume problems, I have to get that fixed soon

55

2006 Bat Outta Hell 2.5l — It performs excellently. Its a sexy car, black paint w/ crome, black leather, cant go wrong. gas mileage is great, a full tank(14+gallons) is about 450+miles. Drives great, wicked fun car to drive and putting that pedal to the floor will never get old.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Pros

Fuel Econ!

Cons

Clutch,Cams, Rear brakes

25

My Vw Jetta Tdi — Its a good car to get around and alot of fun if you get it chipped but no matter what you do (chipped not chipped) you need to plan on replacing the rear brake pads often, the clutch needs replaced to a better higher torque rated clutch and the CAMs. And that is if the rest of car is in good shape. VW cheaped out on these items or even worse these items are design flaws! Fuel is pretty easy to find and you can make your own and it is easier than you think.
