Pros

Good power, great transmission, good space for people/cargo, amazing standard features

Cons

FWD, no LSD, needs a chip to come alive (easily remedied)

Great All Around Fwd Car — Performance wise, it's probably the most fun FWD car you could drive besides a Mini Cooper S or Acura Integra Type R. It does everything very well, nothing amazingly. Good power, but not blistering like a SRT4 or MS3. Great transmission, either the 6MT or DSG. I loved the space it has for people in the back and with the seats down, plenty of cargo room also. Build wise, it's very, very well put together and the quality of materials inside does not leave you doubting your purchase. Gets good gas MPG 26 on average of highway and city. Could be better but I have a heavy foot. It's fun to zip around in and easy to put around in also.

Cons

Leg room in the back is almost non existent.

Great Fun Car — I loved the speed and handling of this car. The gas mileage can't be beat and it sounds amazing. When you feel the turbo kick in and you blast buy traffic, there is no better feeling. Handles great in the snow and ice, just need something a little roomier for lifestyle.

Pros

Loved it. Practical, quick, sporty - just all around great  car. I will always be a GTI enthusiast. Only selling because I had to move to Canada. That winter weather and salt would just ruin my baby. I'll buy a Golf R next....someday. heh.

Cons

none IMO, might be too compact for some, but honestly....WAAAAAY more room than my mom's Civic or my girlfriend's Vibe GT. I might buy a 4-dr version next time just for convenience.

Unless You Hate Hatches, This Is The Best, And Really Only, "hot Hatch". Nice Zippy Car. — I may be biased, because I love Euro cars, and German hatches and sports cars, but there's no denying that the GTI has always had a dedicated following....and that its just a great all-around car even if you're not an enthusiast. The original MKI, the MKII, and the MKV are arguably the best of them all, (although the latest is also getting great reviews.) Its just the full package. Its not a $60k+ luxury car, or a $200k+ supercar, but a great, quick, practical and sporty compact that does everything you need it to unless you have a family of 8 or need to go off-roading. The interior is great, it doesn't feel cheap, (radio needs an upgrade though...), the handling is great even for a FWD car, and its got enough punch from a 2.0 Turbo engine. its not a gas-guzzler either. What more do I need to say?

The interior of the car is very modern and stylish with the red, black and grey plaid seats.

Cons

Sometimes the trunk will be automatically lock when you stop and get out of the car, requiring you to use the key fob to unlock it.

Great Car For A Young Person — This car is such a fun car! Very zippy and fast, it handles great and is very stylish. The back seats fold down all of the way so the car is big enough to camp/sleep in and can carry a lot. The car is also very comfortable to drive and/or ride in for long periods of time.

Nothing — I love my car, it looks great, handles well, is very functional and hasseverything I want in a car. I had no major problems, some wear and tear maintenance, but it has 122 k miles and runs like new. It is great in the snow as well.

The Best Gti Made To Date. — This car is very surprising. It is much more capable than it may appear. It is built very well and you know you got what you paid for when you get in and close the door. Tons of room in the back as well.

Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

Handling, Powerband, size, looks.

Cons

Warranty could be longer (100,000 miles), dealers are very good or very bad.

Mkv Volkswagen Gti — She's a riot! You can load it up with furniture saturday, and then take it to the track Sunday, it'll get you over 30MPG if you drive normally as well. Repairs can be a bit costly, but that's no different than most imports, build quality and reliability have been good so far, with only one issue during my warranty period so far. Got to try the DSG transmission atleast once, don't just automatically go for the stick..

My Gti — It is great to drive very solid and fast enough. Road holding is one of its best features and in it class it has great comfort. It is not a Porches when it comes to performance or a Roles Royse when it comes to comfort but for the price it has the best all round package available.

Pros

Fun to drive, DSG trans is farily good, decent fuel economy [on 93 octane], low end torque.

Cons

Dealer network & knowledge is BAD, DSG trips itself up frequently, TSBs not getting fixed [thanks to knowledgeless dealers], modifications [if desired] are expensive and *can* cause more problems.

105

2006 Mkv Gti — *Performance is fairly good. Acceleration with the DSG transmission is pretty good, and the brakes do a decent job of bring the car to a halt. Handling is very good, given the high ride height and stance on the car. *The build quality is... typical Volkswagen. You'll have plenty of rattles [as I did], though some of them seemed to have worked or worn themselves out. The dealership I bought the car from "cannot find" the TSB for the subframe bolt issue. The subframe bolts stretch over time and cause a loud CREAK when changing directions. Sure doesn't inspire confidence. *The appearance of the GTI looks much better now that I ditched the ugly honeycomb grilles & red grille stripe for a Golf GT conversion [painted gloss black]. That german paint isn't as 'high quality' as some lead you to believe. *Cost is a tad high. It's a Volkswagen, not a BMW or Mercedes. Fuel economy is so-so, high 20s/low 30s. The leather interior [which mine does not have] is nice, but pricey. Most people I speak with prefer the Interlagos plaid. * I think the car is fun to drive... as in just drive one, don't own one. If you're an enthusiast that doesn't mind his car making noises or having little issues that would drive any sane person nuts, you've found your new car. If you're a person who views their car as another appliance in your life, go look at a Mini Cooper.
