ProsQuick car, handles very well. ConsIf abused, repair costs can be very high

The Best Gti Made To Date. — This car is very surprising. It is much more capable than it may appear. It is built very well and you know you got what you paid for when you get in and close the door. Tons of room in the back as well. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsIt's fun and sporty and a smooth ride Conscan't think of a single one except it would be cool if it was all wheel drive

I Love It — I am definitely a fan of the performance of this vehicle. It handles well. The ride is sporty, but smooth. Hasn't needed any repairs except for a recall on the coil packs, there isn't much for creaks and rattles. I really like the look of the vehicle inside and out. I wasn't sure how I felt about the color, but it grew on me and now I love it. The inside is nice, the seats are comfortable and supportive and have a cool plaid pattern on them. The gauge cluster looks cool too. I put the golf ball style shift knob on and a smaller antenna and it will look even better when I lower it. I get an average of about 28 miles to the gallon and I do a lot of city driving. Oil changes are a little expensive because it takes synthetic oil and I get them done at the dealer. That's about all the maintenance that I have had to do. This car is definitely fun to drive. Primary Use: Commuting to work

ProsFun, fun, fun to drive - an unbeatable all-around champ. ConsA little high on the maintenance costs.

The Benchmark Hot Hatch For A Reason. — The GTI is perhaps one of the best buys on the market today, as it is heaps of fun to drive, refined enough to be a livable everyday driver, and well-built and luxurious. There isn't a single car in its price range that beats it as an all around. The 2.0T is a great engine that loves to rev and still returns great MPG, and the handling is forgiving and still tossable. High-speed stability and sure-footedness is excellent. I love my GTI, and it seems that others love theirs, as well. Maintenance costs are a little high - but it's a German car - so I expected that. Reliability has been great - I take care of my car religiously, and it rewards me with dependability. VW has really improved its quality with the Fifth generation GTI/Golf/Jetta, in my opinion - making their fun to drive, class-leading product even more compelling. Primary Use: Commuting to work

2006 Volkswagen GTI 2.0T Review
ProsFun to drive, DSG trans is farily good, decent fuel economy [on 93 octane], low end torque. ConsDealer network & knowledge is BAD, DSG trips itself up frequently, TSBs not getting fixed [thanks to knowledgeless dealers], modifications [if desired] are expensive and *can* cause more problems.

2006 Mkv Gti — *Performance is fairly good. Acceleration with the DSG transmission is pretty good, and the brakes do a decent job of bring the car to a halt. Handling is very good, given the high ride height and stance on the car. *The build quality is... typical Volkswagen. You'll have plenty of rattles [as I did], though some of them seemed to have worked or worn themselves out. The dealership I bought the car from "cannot find" the TSB for the subframe bolt issue. The subframe bolts stretch over time and cause a loud CREAK when changing directions. Sure doesn't inspire confidence. *The appearance of the GTI looks much better now that I ditched the ugly honeycomb grilles & red grille stripe for a Golf GT conversion [painted gloss black]. That german paint isn't as 'high quality' as some lead you to believe. *Cost is a tad high. It's a Volkswagen, not a BMW or Mercedes. Fuel economy is so-so, high 20s/low 30s. The leather interior [which mine does not have] is nice, but pricey. Most people I speak with prefer the Interlagos plaid. * I think the car is fun to drive... as in just drive one, don't own one. If you're an enthusiast that doesn't mind his car making noises or having little issues that would drive any sane person nuts, you've found your new car. If you're a person who views their car as another appliance in your life, go look at a Mini Cooper.

Didn't Get Car Of The Year And Car & Drivers 10 Best For Nothing — What's to say other than I LOVE this car! If it had 4 doors I'd probably keep it after the lease, even though I drove it into a wall and caused $19000 worth of damage (to my credit, I blame mismatched summer/all season tires partly). This car is perhaps the best daily driver under $30000 new. Its fun, great on gas, hauls tons of stuff and is comfy on long drives. Might have a new one once the lease is up! Primary Use: Commuting to work

Just Test Drive One And Trust Me, You'll Like It. — Its everything I want in a car, fast, reliable, and gorgeous. Comes with a good warranty. Lots of mods are out for it if your interested in modifying it. The car comes with great features. Comes with a 6 speed manual or the new DSG or Direct Shift Gearbox. Primary Use: Sport/fun (spirited driving, track racing, off-roading, etc.)

ProsHandling, Powerband, size, looks. ConsWarranty could be longer (100,000 miles), dealers are very good or very bad.

Mkv Volkswagen Gti — She's a riot! You can load it up with furniture saturday, and then take it to the track Sunday, it'll get you over 30MPG if you drive normally as well. Repairs can be a bit costly, but that's no different than most imports, build quality and reliability have been good so far, with only one issue during my warranty period so far. Got to try the DSG transmission atleast once, don't just automatically go for the stick..

My Gti — It is great to drive very solid and fast enough. Road holding is one of its best features and in it class it has great comfort. It is not a Porches when it comes to performance or a Roles Royse when it comes to comfort but for the price it has the best all round package available.
