For its final year in production, the Scion xA (which was replaced in the 2008 model year by the new xD) received a minor makeover, which included a redesigned grille and new headlights and taillights. Other new features included a multifunction steering wheel with audio controls, new exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals, and an upgraded Pioneer audio system with iPod connectivity that displays song and artist info on a head-unit screen.
Power for the 2006 xA was provided by a 1.5-liter, double-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine that produced 103 horsepower. A five-speed manual transmission was standard, while a four-speed automatic was available as an option.
Although it had a long list of dealer-installed options, the 2006 Scion xA also came nicely equipped with such standard features as air conditioning, power windows, power door locks with keyless entry, a tilt steering wheel, and a choice of three wheel covers, as well as a Pioneer AM/FM stereo system with a CD player and iPod connectivity.
Other features included antilock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a front power outlet, and even a first aid kit.
Thanks to Toyota build quality, the xA received four-star crash ratings. Drivers were impressed with the xA's high gas mileage, styling, agile handling, and great overall value. The sound system was also a plus with many drivers.
