The GS is the entry-level Eclipse style. This model houses a 2.4 liter inline four, but this engine is substantially more powerful than before. The modest power plant delivers 162 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and may be paired with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.
The GS comes equipped with air conditioning, cruise control, cloth upholstery, a split folding rear seat, full power accessories, keyless entry, and an MP3-compatible CD player. Safety features have also been added. Front curtain side airbags, daytime running lights and ABS now come standard.

The key differentiation between the GS and GT trims is the engine. A new 3.8-liter V6 provides this model with 263 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. With the manual transmission, the GT will run from 0 to 60 mph in just over six seconds.
The GT also adds a six-speed manual transmission or the five-speed automatic option, traction control, fog lamps and a compass. This trim is eligible for Mitsubishi's Premium Sport Package, which adds 18-inch tires, leather upholstery, heated front seats with a six-way power driver seat, heated mirrors, a sunroof, automatic climate control, the premium Rockford Fosgate audio system with an in-dash CD changer, steering-wheel audio controls, and aluminum pedals.
