Gooc Car — Great gas mileage. Also good performance. I have the 3.3 v6 with 235hp 205lbft trq. auto manual and cheaper than an accord or bmw 325, yet faster.

Pros

Acceleration, brakes, ride quality, standard features, power at cruising speed (like passing someone) looks that kill, headlights are sufficient.

Cons

fuel economy is not the best, torque steer (moderate, not bad)

Hot Rod Sleeper Sedan — I absolutely love my car. It has the 3.3 V6 with 235hp. The handling is ok, it isn't a race car by any means, but when I mash the gas, all hell breaks loose. 1/2 throttle with ESC turned off and I light up the front tires like a Christmas tree. Gas mileage is not the greatest, though I haven't taken it on a trip yet. But I can vouch for a 93 mph 1/4 mile, and so far 110 mph with plenty of peadle left. Its a sleeper, nobody knows what the hell happened when I pass them like they were parked.

Pros

extremely silent, very well assembled, relatively high gas mileage (4 cyl)
manual transmission a lot better then ford fusion, similar to mazda.
mutli-link suspension, frame is rigit.  Huge trunk

Cons

suspension too smooth
brand/name of the car not very 'glamour'

Unbeatable Value — was not supposed to buy that car. It did however fit in the price range i wanted to spend for a car so i gave it is chance by trying it. Beated every other brands i've tried. For the price range, car i've looked at were Toyota corolla, mazda 3, ford fusion, nissan versa, honda fit/civic. At that moment, no recent/interesting models at Nissan, GM, Chrysler, Subaru, Kia, Suzuki... I've understood that the best compact car just can't compete with the ride quality of a full size sedan

bought one because:

The Sonata proved to be a better deal and was affordable (from where I got it). Its stylish, rides real smooth, although the steering can be a bit better. Nice and has the power of a sports car (I do have the v6 3.3L GLS model) and great to drive!!! I love it!!

Pros

Smooth, comfortable ride. Strong, but quiet V6. Big car volume in a medium car package. Many standard safety features.

Cons

Poor quality paint and materials. Hyundai spent the development budget on safety features and left the material quailty for last.

Reliable Mechanically, Disappointing Cosmetically — I have owned this car for almost seven years now and have had no engine or drivetrain problems to speak of. With 83,000 miles, the V6 is still strong with good acceleration. I definitely have no complaints about this car mechanically. I can't say that about the quality of materials in this car. The seats are still comfortable, but starting to look worn. I have replaced the driver side visor twice, and the passenger side once because they broke (and not from misuse). The volume knob on the radio no longer works as it should. The second outside driver side mirror is separating at the top, creating a slight whistle when driving (the first one was replaced because of this). The paint is very delicate, chipping and scratching easily, and I have had to have the hood repainted. The trunk lid, from day one, requires a lot of muscle to lift, which is not convenient whey you have your hands full. I loved everything about this car when I bought it, and still love the way it rides and the performance of the V6. I can't say that about the rest of it. Update: The connection in the buttons for the power locks is apparently loose, as it takes several tries to get the doors to lock or unlock. I'm now up to 86,200 miles and the transmission is starting to act a little weird, but not so much I'm ready to have it looked at and deal with the "We can't duplicate the problem" excuse I hear a lot. Update 9/05/13: Now up to 92k on the ODO and no new issues to report. I am now working in a different town, driving a little farther each day, but because it is 85% highway am averaging a little over 24 mpg. Original EPA estimates for the V6 was 18/27, so it's good with the gas. Update 12/14/2014: Now up to 113,000 miles and it is still running smooth. I did have to have the lower A arm replaced this past month at just under $200, which is the most I have spent on non-routine maintenance items since I have owned the car. That's not bad. Still drives and rides like it was new, though I am ready to trade it in for a truck. I have had this car longer and put more miles on it than any car I have ever owned. Overall it has been a very good car and still is.

The Accountant — Needs the V6, not only for power and pickup, but for resale value, I'm glad I opted for the 6 cylinder. A comfortable reliable, if a bit boring sedan, gives the Camry and Accord a good run for their money. Best warranty in the business, but I've never had to use it. Took me on an hour long commute every day for a year without complaint. Dash is simple, intuitive and well laid out.

Nice Car. Decent Value Proposition — In December 2005, I purchased two Sonatas. Same trim (LX) different colors for me and my wife. We still own them and have driven one 62,000 miles and the other 67,000 miles. Light duty, some highway miles but mostly around town. Overall, the cars have done well by us. They haul family and lots of stuff in the back, they look nice, they are quick and smooth on the acceleration front, and came loaded with lots of goodies. My wife's starter died at 45,000 miles, was replaced under warranty. Her driver's sun visor died at 49,000 miles, was replaced under warranty. My general impression is that Hyundai made a decent car, they packaged it nicely and sold it with a generous value proposition in 2006. A comparable Honda was over $30K and our cars were each $23,400. But now, I've dropped $700 to repair the rear power door locks which started dying at 50,000 miles and replaced that silly sun visor which died out of warranty. I wrote Hyundai asking for some sort of compensation and they originally told me to get lost. Update to this story: I wrote to the President of Hyundai North America in December 2012 and they recently agreed that my situation was unusual and have agreed to stand by their vehicles. I am grateful that someone in Hyundai recognized the importance of brand loyalty. I've changed my tune. Hyundai represents a good value overall, and I will consider purchasing another one in the future. And now, the company apparently stands behind their vehicles and that is an outstanding comfort level increase for me.
